Hi all. When I ride my XB12R, my right hand falls asleep. Got Avon grips, no difference. I want to have a more upright position, to lessen the forward lean and pressure on my hands. Any recommendations? Thank you all in advance for any suggestions you may give me. |

Don't crutch the bike because you have weak back/core muscles..! Alternate leaning on your hands, then tighten your core muscles for a while. The more you do this the stronger your muscles will get, they you won't complain anymore. It'll become second nature to keep your stomach/back muscles tighter for longer periods of time. Your hands and wrists won't hurt, fall asleep any more..! I know this for fact. I drove (low clip-on bars) sport bikes for over 30 years, 30 to 44 miles, each way (depending on the job) to work and back every day. I had the same feeling at first, then I realized...it was "MY" problem...NOT the bikes..! Mike |

IF you can find a set, Helibars made a world of difference on my XB12R. |

One thing I forgot to mention in my above post... I was 67yrs. old when I retired from work. I was still driving either my EBR, RX or occasionally my XB12s every day (unless it rained too hard)...without bastardizing the bike... Mike |

Hi Mike. Thank you very much for your advice. I'm thinking that the problem may be carpal tunnel-related, and that the angle my wrist is at when leaning forward is the issue, as opposed to the pressure on my palms or vibration being the source of my problem, as it takes just a few minutes of riding for the problem to occur. I would think that if it was a palm pressure problem, it would take a longer period of time during a ride to manifest itself. Again, thank you. Take care. |

You could convert the upper triple to an LSL conversion to regular bars, not inexpensive but adds a few inches over the stock triple https://www.lsl-online.nl/en/detail/2071027/superb ike-kit-buell-xb-9-12r-silver.htm |

I should probably clarify my advice as well. What I got was a Heli-bar upper triple replacement. The reason I said if you can find them, is they haven't made any for quite a while. When I had my 1125R, I contacted them and asked about plans for that model - no joy. Tried a bunch of different things, but nothing really worked for me. So, like Mike I currently have the XB12R and 1190RX as well as an 1125R in my past for comparison. What the Heli-Bar upper does is pull the bars back towards the fork centerline and raises them up (I believe) a 1/2". Changed it from a bike to keep for a little while to permanent resident. And while it does add a level of comfort, I got it mostly for the change in steering feel. Last time I saw one for sale was a salvage yard listing on Ebay. |

Pete and Zacks, Thank you both. If I could get drawings, I could have a machinist friend make one. I don’t think that is likely. Maybe I can get a top triple and modify it to get the bar mounts moved up and back |

I'll PM you a couple of pictures tomorrow when I can get into the shed. I seem to remember somebody cutting the bar mounts out and adding clip-ons (Vortex?). Effective perhaps, but not as sanitary as I like my solutions personally. But... function over form. I had clip-ons with some offset bars I ended up with on the 1125. I'll see if I can dig up an OEM and maybe an old picture of that as well. |

Ok, Ultimately on the 1125R I ended up with these: https://www.apexmfg.com/all-products/product/view/ 11/172 But looking at receipts, it WAS 2012.... |

Hi all. Many thanks to all of you for your advice. So Zacks, can I presume that the Apex bars on your 1125R resulted in a more upright seating position (presumably, with still a bit of forward lean) than the Helibars on your XB? Although the comparison is not on the same model bike, given that I think that I need to change the angle of my wrist when holding the bars, I'm trying to get a feel for whether I should hold out for a set of Helibars or go with the Apexes, or one of the other suggestions. Not having ever ridden a bike with risers, I'm not sure how much difference in my wrist position I could expect from the 1" rise that I would have with the Helibars. I will be grateful for any further advice. Again, thanks to all. |

The 1125 ended up more upright which I was looking for. What it did not do is move the bars back enough. For me (YMMV), I don't like the bars so far in front of the fork tube centers. Makes it feel like the bike is not turning the same radius as the bars - best as I can describe. The Helibars pull them back towards the centers and improve feel - again for me. As far as your wrist angle, are you thinking you need to change the angle more in the horizontal or vertical plane? Obviously this is not an absolute 0 or 90 degrees being described. That answer will drive your solution. |

I have helibars. I've attached a picture so you can see how they raise and move the clip ons back. They made a world of difference in comfort but as others have said, they are not made anymore and are just about impossible to find

Many thanks to all of you for your kind and helpful advice. I’ve located a Heli triple and it’s on its way to me. Looking forward to being able to ride comfortably for more than 5 minutes! |

Woodcraft makes clipons with pretty tall risers. |

If the Heli doesn’t do the trick, I will be looking at something with a greater rise, like Woodcraft. I’m hoping that the Heli works, so I can avoid fairing interference and cable/brake hose replacement |

When I tried no rise Woodcraft bars on my XB12S, I did have to space out and trim the headlight housing and use R cables. |

Within this thread is how I went about the problem with my 1125. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/773626.html?1460512624 Since you’ve got an XB you could also get a top triple from an XBs but then will have to figure out a solution for the key. I duct taped a bar to check clearances as well which is something to consider if the helibars don’t fit the bill. I had a set on an 05 9r which I found great, but like others have stated they weren’t available for my 1125. Hope they work well for you. |
