Turnagain, cool undertray...how's the fit, finish, install and color match? Any issues with paint chipping?

Thanks,

Hey Dana (aka BadS1)- I like the looks of those moose bars. Would I be correct in assuming they are lower and wider than stock? If so, are they comfortable and were the cables, hoses, and wires long enough to be used. If possible could you post a picture of yourself on the bike holding the bars? Thanks- Ron

Forcebuell, where did you get that wave rotor? I need a new rotor and that would be great.

Racertroy, Fbolt could say for sure. Look for "XB/R Undertray C/W Lights & Indicators" at Trojan Horse Products (sorry, can't get sponsor's link to work in this post).

When I got mine, I went to the license plate and searched around until I found a US supplier. I also think DaveS has them. Wiring sux with them (the connectors are all wrong. It's a splice and heat wrap thing) but it does look pretty good. Blue was a good match.

Force,

I am thinking about getting the wave rotor to go along with my new wheels this winter. If you get a few minutes, I would appreciate a PM with your impressions regarding it (I'm told that sintered pads are recommended for use with it, so I'm particularly interested in the implications of that).

Thanks!

The yellow is 1/2" reflective yellow tape from Applied Graphics around rims. 1/4" reflective tape outlining the dash.

It REALLY makes it stand out at night. I think it makes for good visibility.

Darthane,I have found the rotor to prove good .It provides good braking from cold and always has good feedback.I am however using standard pads at the moment but sintered pads should aid braking even further,I hope this helps?

Some random thoughts (it's past my bedtime)

The XB is bored out to 1169cc. Nallin Stage 3 heads, heavy valve springs, bronze guides, roller rockers, Millenium cylinders, hydrosolid lifters, pushrods, 585 cams, about 10.5 compression, overbored throttle body, high pressure fuel regulator, Penske shock, Traxxion Dynamics tuned forks, Beson exhaust. Race ECM - redline set to 7800 for racing, 8000 for dyno

It has been a learning experience to say the least.

I crashed in what was to be my last Novice race in October 2003 in turn 8 at Willow Springs when I was passing one of those dang slow gixxer 1000's and he came all the way to the outside of the track and clobbered my front wheel - tankslapper was hard enough to break the steering stops and I probably hit the ground at about 125 mph. The bike was pretty munched for a low-side.

Chris Matty (Matty on Badweb) was racing in the same race and told me later that he was AMAZED at how far the bike slid before it stopped. Pic was taken a half hour after the "off-road" ride.

Crash pic

I just got started racing at the Club level a year and a half ago and after the Buell crash - I decided to make it a project bike and picked up a Suzuki SV650 that I raced every month while building up the XB racebike.

I started on a bone stock XB9R just because it seemed the next step to take after doing track days.

The last 6 months have been pretty inactive due to serious financial injury! (worse than broken bones - but I digress)

Two weeks before Formula USA in Vegas, I was practicing at Willow Springs on the bike for the first time in 10 months... when a doofus decided to pass me in the last turn instead of waiting 2 seconds to pass on the front straight (I was signalling to exit the track) and he pulled right into the racing line at low speed and FREAKED when a couple riders came zooming around him at speed. He grabbed a handful of brakes, stood up and T-Boned me and I went down, bending and breaking a bunch of stuff. Spent a full week repairing the forks, replacing and straightening stuff BARELY in time for Vegas.

Vegas was a great experience - a story in itself. First pic is in the hot pit during a red flag. Jeff Johnson (Hoban Brothers) had busted an oil line, oiled his rear tire and the bike laid there with the engine running, spraying oil on the track. Total red flag downtime almost 45 minutes while they cleaned up the oil. Jeff was pretty shaken up but finished on their backup bike.

Vegas Red Flag

Henry Duga (left) - a real asset to Buell Racing is always helpful, has a TON of spares and always ready advice for setup, settings and generally trying to keep me from making a fool of myself. Sunny (middle) really owns more of the bike now than I do - that's me on the right.

Henry Sunny Me

Decided to go to Vegas even though I was really rusty - just play it safe and ride predictably.

This coming weekend is Willow Springs race weekend and I'm getting the bike ready.

Willow Springs Turn 3

I'll post more - I'm putting more of a story together about starting racing when it's already too late for a mid-life crisis (I'm 51)

And yes, Lavin-Yurassov Racing is a legitimate race game (at the club level). Next year, we'll have it more together - drawing on some MAJOR lessons learned this year.

Unibear,

If you do come out to Willow, we usually pit up toward turn 1, to the West side of the stands along the front straight.

Probably be pitting with the Bartels guys too.

Next year, there are going to be at least a half dozen Buells racing here! Kinda cool.

Stop on by. I'm on track all 3 days - Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Jeff Ecklund from Bartels will be there for sure Sunday - possibly Eric Pinson. Tim and Candice Hurley will be there for sure Sunday and maybe Saturday. Tim only needs one point to get out of Novice so he's seriously considering just coming out Sunday and cruising for practice.

Hope to see you there!

Oh yeah, there's a $10 gate fee for the weekend (sorry about that - whether you're a racer or spectator you still pay at the gate)

sorry about that
No need to be sorry, sounds like a deal to me.
It's the air fare added to my $10 that will keep me from being able to see you race.
Best of luck!
