Hey guys, I am getting slop going into 2nd all of time up and 50% of time going down. Some times getting Slightly stuck in 2nd going into 3rd. I have never done any transmission work, this will be my first attempt. So anything outside of the shop manual I should look out for? Also any good places to get new transmission parts? I do have a used motor with a good trans from a xb12s I can pull parts from, current motor is xb12r same year. |

Too bad there isn't a trap door and you have to split the cases. |

I have converted 2 or 3 XB engines to trapdoor tranny some years ago - but that would probably not pay out for a street engine. So yes - a complete teardown is unfortunately on the scedule. |

How did it happen? Did you abuse your transmission? Did you shift without using clutch lever? How many miles on your motorcycle? (Message edited by TPEHAK on June 01, 2019) |

No abuse from me, 23000 miles. I have 2 motors and want want to learn how to do a full teardown and rebuild. Bucket check list for me is to do both motors then rebuild another bike with the 2nd motor. |

If you have the time and a few extra bucks, it would be worth stripping the spare tranny and sending it to R&D Motorsports and have them work their magic on it. They will clean, blast and magnaflux each part, replace bad parts and machine the dogs for positive engagement. Would be as close to bulletproof as an XB tranny can get. |

Hey Griff thanks for the info. Can you shoot me a link I`m finding a bunch of R&D Motorsports around the country. Also, have you done or know of anyone upgrading the crank to an 2008 XB crank on 2004 and up motors? Looking into a few other upgrades while I have the motor apart. |

Holy crap, I missed the reply, sorry. R&D Motorsports is in Clearwater FL. The only problem now is that I can’t seem to get on what should be their website. When I try all I get is a Yelp review. I hope this doesn’t mean they’re not around anymore. There was a phone number you could try, 727-447-4552. Good luck. |

I would not bother to contact someone who doesn't have website and clear instructions how to deal with them regardless how good they were long time ago because it will likely mean you will deal with managing your repair over the phone with lack of communication and no regular response. It is gonna be tough. |

I have been a customer of R&D transmission for a few different bikes over the last 10 years and have been VERY happy. SUPER knowledgable and helpful. I don't know what's going on currently. Re-built and customized a couple transmissions for me an explained the whole processs. Not cheap. Done right. There's the Yelp review you want.
