What have you guys had luck using as a replacement pump in the xb's? dragging an 03 home, and sounds like the pump is gummed up from sitting to long. | ||

John Lutz of Mid-Atlantic cycle in Pa. can supply a rebuild kit and has a few genuine Buell pumps left at good prices (a lot more than $29 though). don't be put off by all the Kawi Triple stuff on his website. this guy KNOWS Buells. I believe there are some on this board who have bought his kits. I can't comment on the pro's/con's vs. the MUstang parts. | ||

I replaced fuel pump on 2009 Buell XB12 using this kit https://www.ebay.com/itm/380323398370 The fuel pressure regulator from that kit is wrong, it has lower pressure, so buy new original pressure regulator. Pex clamps from that kit do not fit too, they are too large. You have to find correct size pex clamps. I used Fuel Filter Wix 33095. I bought all necessary viton o-ring on e-bay for cheap. I bought new original fuel filter seals. Jumping onto this thread.....hope that's OK. So, my 2005 12r's fuel pump fuel line fitting/connector (???) snapped off (tightened the bolt too tightly...arrgghh). Question- is that fitting "tube" part of the mounting plate? Or is it part of the pump itself? Do I need to buy a whole new pump "assembly"....or just a piece of it? The parts diagram really doesn't show a breakdown of the pump assembly. Thanks! | ||

Did you use torque wrench with specified torque or just tightened it on your guess? The torque for that fitting is 9.5 Nm, it is pretty small torque. This is definitely not the part of the pump. It is attached to the plate. I'm not sure if you can replace this nozzle. You probably need new housing. But at this point you have to take out and disassemble the fuel pump assembly anyway so you can see how it attached and if it is possible to replace the nozzle. No....was being a bit lazy....didn't 'feel' like I had much torque on the nut...but it was leaking, so ham fistedly figured that I'd just snug the nut a little, and snap.... This was actually some time ago...and am just getting around to tackling the rest of the "rebuild". So...this afternoon, I removed the pump assembly. It certainly doesn't look like the nozzle can be replaced. I'll sit down with the whole assembly again on the weekend....look at some pics I found on line, and see what if anything comes apart. Nut torque does nothing with sealing in this fitting. All it does is holding the banjo fitting in place. There are two o-rings on the fitting, they seal the interface, not the nut force. If it was leaking the o-ring was probably bad and it would leak regardless how hard you torque it. (Message edited by TPEHAK on November 22, 2019) | ||

I was kinda wondering about that too....silly me...I did not install new o-rings, so ya...that ham fist likely struck again. On the lookout now for a whole new pump assembly. |
