Right. Finally found some time to get back at the 2005 12r rebuild project. Let me first say that I really wish that I had tested this (see below) prior to assembling the rear end of the bike!!! But the day finally came for the first test start. Threw a battery in, and bit of fuel. Damn...fuel is now dripping out at the fuel line to fuel pump connection.... so, locate wrench, tighten nut on fitting a little..whoops... and the pump's line fitting twists right off [insert select swear words here]. The fuel pump parts diagram/list really doesn't indicate if that fitting is replaceable....or what part of the pump might be replaceable. Therefore, am I shopping for a whole new pump? Or can I fix/replace the one I have? Any thoughts? thanks.... |

Have you seen this thread? http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/327 77/701810.html?1356609444 The Knowledge vault has pump replacement threads that may help you. Is the fitting you are talking about, the brass one in these pix? It doesn't look like a water plumbing item to me, but may be a common FI fitting. Maybe see it you can get it out and take the pieces to a good auto parts store or a repair garage and see if they recognize it.

NOTE - Spud...see that black piece of plastic in the wires in the above shot ? You'll save yourself a lot of grief by doing the same thing...NOW. That piece of extruded aluminum was VERY POORLY designed. It's full of sharp edges. Sharp edges that WILL eventually cut into the pump wiring. Protect all the wiring while you have the pump out fixing the fitting. I used a piece of rubber tubing, sliced open and wrapped around the wires. Mike |

Response to the first replied question... yes...that first pic (and the second one too) shows the brass fitting. Just the notion that it's a "fitting" is encouraging---I will try to get the broken one out. Pic 2---1_mike---noted. thanks! you're referring to the black tubing on the three individual wires running up the left side of the pump unit...right? |

Fitting is a generic word and asking at a shop or two while you have the pieces in your hand will help you find if it is a common item in the FI world or can something similar be adapted. |

John at Mid Atlantic Cycle in Leola Pa. has put together a pump rebuild kit. He did have a very limited number of complete pumps. A lot of the parts are no longer available from HD. |

If you need, I have one working, but loud, out of my 2003 that you can have for $50 plus shipping. I personally would put another pump in for a few bucks. |
