Hi everyone. I saw this post on my area CL and wondered if you thought this bike would be worth the trouble to fix. https://dallas.craigslist.org/ndf/mcy/d/lake-dalla s-05-buell-xb9sx/6788388023.html From what I gather he wheelied it and it went over backward. It has a crushed tail, twisted handlebars, dinged pipe and a messed up timing cover. The good news is I don't see any frame damage |

If you can get it dirt cheap then it might be worth it, the motor at least likely is still decent. There is a lot of damage to it so I'm not sure how practical it is to fix. There can always be damage not visible like tweaked swing arm, bent axle, cracked frame at the steering neck, and so on. I'd check it out at least for parts of you can get it for a few hundred. |

I agree with Froggy; its what you CAN'T see that will get you. That said, I'd jump at it, as I have most of the parts in my shop to fix it...wish it was near me. |

It's touch and go. I did a quick run down on the things I could see using eBay as my source for the parts estimate. I figure I could have another grand in parts if I sourced everything and there were no real engine or transmission issues. Around here a Buell, any Buell is selling in the $2200 to $2500 range (Except for the Ulysses which brings a little more.) If it is still around in a week, when I have the time I will go and look at it. I don't need it but buying clapped out bikes and making them whole again gets me going. |

Personally...I'd pass on it. Unless you buy it for about $250 and use IT...for spare parts for another bike. AND...it's only a XB9. With that kind of crash, NOTHING is safe to be straight. You'll have way too much money into it, and that's IF the frame swing arm and front end are straight. The tires are oil soaked, who know what else is trash under the seat... How high an rpm and how long did the engine rev with no oil covering the pickup ? Again, unless you're a glutton for punishment, I'd pass. Mike |

1_mike has some valid points, but I don't THINK the rear tire is oil soaked. The front appears similar, so it leads me to believe he parked where it's at and gave it a good bath. Had it been oil soaked, the tire would have picked up some smeg on the trip through that mulch. All his other warnings stand! |

Good points all 1_Mike but if you look close the bike is wet, like he just washed it for pictures. That's what made the tires look oily. I was more concerned this the hit the timing cover took as well as the crushed pipe. I figure he went over backwards and it fell down hard on the right. The rear brake pedal is broken off as well as the right foot peg. The handlebar area is a mystery as well. There is no telling if the switch gear or the front brake master cylinder is still operable. I would budget a grand for repairs and I still might be off the mark. |

If I had the garage space and time AND could get it for a song, I'd be all over it. That'd be a fun and rewarding project. |

That seems like a hell of a good deal to me. If it comes with a clean title. |

Well it's gone so I saved myself some grief. The more I looked at the pictures and the more I counted the broken bits I could see the more I didn't want to mess with it. There is probably a formula like, the number of broken things you can count, squared equal the number of actual broken or destroyed item. I have my M2 and that's enough Buell for me right now. |

Repairs like that can get real expensive really fast. |
