Just pulled the bike apart, put NRHS top end on, putting it back together, went to put the coil in, and replace a chaffed wire. Then, thought....hmmm 2003, probably should replace both....hmmm, let's check coil resistance....out of spec. Bike ran fine...primary 1.6k, should be according to service manual .5k - .7k. Secondary is out of spec high too. Should I replace it? Again, bike ran fine....service manual says corrosion. connectors are clean, zero'd my Fluke meter. Thoughts? |

The primary resistance should be 0.5 to 0.7 ohms, not kohms. You'll have to touch your meter probes together, note what resistance you get, then subtract that from your measurement of the primary. If you got 1.6 ohms of DC resistance on the primary of your coil, that's not concerning. What DCR were you able to measure on the secondary? That measurement should be much closer to the book value since lead resistance isn't much of a contributor. |

IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THESE READINGS ??? ALSO, ARE THE BOLT HOLES CONSIDERED TO BE GROUND??? 2 & 1 = 0.5 ohms 2 & 3 = 0.5 ohms A & B = 12,500 ohms A & 1 = 6,250 ohms A & 2 = 6,250 ohms A & 3 = 6,250 ohms B & 1 = 6,250 ohms B & 2 = 6,250 ohms B & 3 = 6,250 ohms
