Still trying to get this program to work., I am useless with computers but even my IT guy can't seem to get it to work. Intalled mono and ecmspy for mono. then by mistake downloaded the wrong data base forgetting I have a 2004 ECM on a 2006 bike So i downloaded for BUEIB. I had more than one version of mono and ecmspy downloaded because have having repeated teh download process. Also had to download a driver for the cable. Went back to download the database i need which is BUEGB. Emailed Nick Pashley at ecmspy, said just do it all over again. I did not download the mono and ecmspy again, his link took me right to the donation page where you select the database. downloaded and received an activation notice and activation number. But I still get the same message that the computer does not recognize the ECM unit, does not have the right database. despite that, i was able to fetch the EEPROM. Suggestions? I have not heard back from Nick for a couple of weeks. |

Get the Buelltooth wireless dongle and use the ECMDROID app on your phone or tablet. The ECMspy program is pretty frustrating, and I sincerely regret spending the money on it myself. |

Audiowise wrote - ""The ECMspy program is pretty frustrating, and I sincerely regret spending the money on it myself."" ????????? It's actually pretty simple if you read the instructions, go slow till you learn and understand it. But...yes, one DOES NEED to understand at least a little and have reasonable amount of knowledge about how to tune an engine. I've used the original ECMSpy program on three different bikes. While it took me a while to be happy with my tuning, I was using my butt dyno and the gas gauge only to get it right. You want one that's a real pain to work (the actual tuning is easy), try the old 1125R/CR programs. You need TWO programs to tune that ECM. Mike |

Oh, I'm not even talking about tuning, I'm talking about the amount of tweaking you have to do with the software just to be able to zero the TPS. If you want to load a different map that you've downloaded online, good luck! I was never actually able to get ECMspy to do a flash. With ECMDROID, everything worked the first time without any hassle. The software is also FREE. |

Thanks. Guess that means I would have to get an android phone? or will it work with Windows on a PC? |

So I seem to have got it working by re-downloading the earlier version of ecmspy that was attached to the database. It fetched the eeprom again (although it seems to think it was a BUEIB ecm,m n ot the BUEGB. It was letting me do a TPS reset. turned until voltage stopped dropping. Which wasn't much. voltage stuck at 0.94. Opened the throttle and snapped shut 3 times and hit reset. Then I got carried away turning the idle screw counterclockwise until something came unhooked in the throttle cable. turning the idle adjustment screw clockwise did not increase the angle or voltage nor did it put any tension in the throttle cable. Would appreciate it if anyone can explain how i screwed this up and what to do. Thanks. |

The idle screw will back out of the TB housing if you turn it like 20 times to far. Now you have to pull the airbag base and work it back in carefully |

Thanks Shoggin, figured it had to be something like that. |

I don't know if the newer ECMspy is the same way, but the old one disconnects after hitting the reset button, so you won't see any activity unless you hit the keys icon to reconnect again. |

Thanks guyss. Turns out the throttle cable broke at the twistgrip just while i was doing the TPS reset. Better to happen in the driveway than miles from nowhere. Glad it wasn't the idle adjustment cable coming unscrewed. It looks impossible to replace without removing the throttle body. |

So got my TPS reset, and exhaust valve working (had to replace actuator) and bike is running great. But ecmspy still won't access the correct BUEGB database, even though it is in my downloads. It only shows the BUEIB that I originally downloaded by mistake. Suggestions? |

Make sure the BUEGB file is in the correct folder for ECMSpy to see it. |

Thanks Shoggin. so the setup files for both databases are saved in the same downloads folder. There is an ecmspy folder which includes subfolders for applog, eprom, map and megalog plus one file entitled public key. There are no databases for either ECM type in any of those folders. i have run the setup for the BUEGB database a few times. |

So i searched my laptop and found the following: C:/program files (x86)/ecmsp_mono/BUEGB.exmL. there is an identical file except for BUEIB. Trying to figure out why one works and not the other. Can you look for different databases in emcspy when it is connected? |

I don't think so. But I also don't know specifically where ECMSpy wants the file to be. I'm more of a ECMDroid person and learning the others. That info should be easy to find in the regular operation instructions for ECMSpy though. |

The older version of ECM Spy doesn't need any of this sort of fooling around, works great on the 07 and older bikes |

Thanks FMJ. Not sure why but only the newer version seems to work, even though I have the old version on the computer with an icon to open it up. Maybe ecmdroid is the way to go. |

So what happens with the older version? |

Don't remember the exact message but basically said it doesn't recognize the ECM (if i recall correctly). Which perhaps isn't surprising since the database is BUE1B (2006) whereas the one installed (did not come with the bike) is BUEGB (2004). But for some reason the new version of ecmspy let me fetch the eeprom, and set TPS which the old version wouldn't. Anyway, I am just going to download the whole program again, this time I'll download the correct data base with it. But I am thinking of going with the buelltooth dongle instead of the cable because of the other options available through bueltooth. Does that mean ecmspy will have to be downloaded onto an android device? The ecmspy site user guide mentions you can connect with a bluetooth device, and the buelltooth site says it can connect to ecmspy, but i did not see any instructions how to do it. |

Never had any message like that with the old ecm-spy, does have to have a low number com port and you need to remember to hit the key icon to go live. Then just fetch the eeprom by going to the eeprom tab. |

If you buy the Buelltooth dongle, you can go to the Google Play Store and download ECMDroid. ECMSpy is no longer needed. |

will ecmdroid permit making individual tuning maps like ecmspy? |
