Bought this 20006 Uly with stock exhaust and EBR Race ECM installed. I installed a stock ECM to get the exhaust valve working and find the actuator is pooched (gears stripped). Looking for feedback whether to just get a Drummer and get the EBR Race ECM re-flashed for it. Or get the actuator and keep the stock exhaust. That will mean tuning with ecmspy which will cost because I don't have the chops to tune it myself. So it will probably cost a little less to go for the Drummer. I don't really want a lot louder bike, and I have been reasonably satisfied with the performance as is, just wanted to improve fueling, throttle response, get it to run slightly richer to avoid overheating. Any feedback, advice appreciated. I have studied the exhaust shootout report by Al Lighton. |

Tleighbell wrote - get it to run slightly richer to avoid overheating. ----------------------------------------- Please don't do this..! If you understand the way gasoline residue works, it actually insulates the piston and combustion surface so more heat actually stays "IN" the top of the engine, not radiated out to the fins where it can be carried away by the air. I really don't know where this myth/wives tale started...but it is completely false. Maybe my comment above is where it started and "misinterpreted" as something that was actually NOT happening. If one was to put a heat gun on a fresh engine with "PROPER" air-fuel ratio, vs. one that had run a little while being overly rich...the heat gun would actually show a cooler engine..! Because the heat is staying inside the chamber area, not radiating out to the cylinder fins. BAD understanding of what is happening. Again...for the best running engine...on ALL fronts...make the air-fuel ratio correct, or close to it. Your engine and your "fun dyno" WILL appreciate it. Mike} |

message received, thanks Mike. I did mean closer to an ideal mixture as I understand the standard setup is on the lean side. BTW a nice man at the parts desk atg St. Paul HD let me know there is a work around for the exhaust valve actuator which is no longer available from HD. I can post threads if anyone is interested, The part is by Dorman for a Ford F250. There is a Ford part number |
