Jim,

There's a double don't in this sentence:
"When you and the bike operate as one, you don't don't just slice through the corner, you own it."

You've got some time left to edit it and thanks for you're input.

typo:
"In 1983, an uprising was born. Back then, there weren't many bold enough to carry the torch. But those who did were always found stating their caes around the S-curves, "

Oops, thanks for the corrections. Too late though, more than 60 minutes went by for me.

Maybe Blake can edit it for us.

Jim Witt, You are correct about the major damage that might be done to a Firebolt in a fall-down.

I've given the matter some thought in the last hour and come up with an elegant solution.

Rubber cement a piece of velcro to both sides of the frame/tank. Slap on a pair of knee slider pucks. Preferrably ones with some wear.

Anyone who sees these sliders will know you are really serious about cornering. ;-)

You probably don't want to use the titanium imbedded sparkler models, because if you were to puncture the tank, you would really light up a FireBall.

"cases"
Should that be singular or pluraler?

Anyway, I see a lot of sportbikes with nylon/teflon posts bolted onto their sides to protect the bodywork during a laydown/slideout. Might be something to watch for once the XB hits the market.

Part of the pre-production testing is "tip over" testing. Sound complicated?
It's not.
Drop the bike right,
Drop the bike left,
Replace the parts,
Record the cost.

For what it's worth, Buells, traditionally, have excelled. In fact, for a couple years, thanks to the air cleaner you could actually INCREASE the value of your Buell (Erik forgive me...it's a joke) by tipping it on the right. :)

I hope their pre-production testing also includes such things as "what happens when you run over a 4x4 (not a truck) piece of wood on the freeway at 70 mph." I seem to recall one Jim Armstrong did just that on a Buell a while back and survived. Fortunately for him the bike continued to roll even with severely dented rims.

Now what will happen to such a dented rim if the dent is at one of the front rotor attachment points and, shudder to think, the rotor bends and binds in the caliper thus locking the wheel. I hope they did their homework and that maybe there's something in the wheel and/or brake design to preclude this scenario from happening. Please tell me there is. I know that sh** can happen on the road, but hey, I don't want to be the guinea pig when I get mine.

Sparky,

You are scaring me now. I sure wouldn't want to hit more wood on a Firebolt. It would have to do more damage on a Firebolt, than I did to the S3 when I hit that lumber outside of Valencia doing 80 mph. Two bent PM rims and two blown Dunlop tires.

Sparky:

I bear glad tidings....our government, in their continuing effort to protect us, prescribes a host of tests hitting about ANYTHING you can name.

The manufacturer must demonstrate and validate dynamic stability.

Wanna try it for yourself.....take the bike to speeds of 60, 90 and 105. Now rare back....kick the handlebars (you must induce a 5o deviation) and see what happens.

In the REAL tests the "see" part is handled by gyro-potentiometer type devices duct taped all over the bike (you bet the Buell engineers loved the breadbox). At the conclusion the data is used to poulate an Excel spreadsheet and validated.

Everytime someone tells me they think test riding is the best job in the world I ask when the last time they were pitched from their desk at 110mph was?

By the time your Buell gets in your hands it's been thoroughly wrung out.

Fascinating. Here's a V-Rod being sold on E-Bay, current price was 25,000. Curious how someone can sell something that isn't at the dealer's yet.

Now, I'm wondering, when will the first auction for an XB be, and what will the final bid be? Any speculations?

How about those guys doing the durability tests on the S1? Anyone out there wnat to volunteer to spend 8 hours a day 5 days a week in the S1 saddle? Rocket you up for that?

One of the test bikes came back after a month of this with about 4 poudts of foam duct taped on top of the stock seat.

E'gad(s),

Hell I'd do that in a heartbeat "if" it paid well enough to make ends meet. Where do I signup?
