Hi,

I bought an 08 XB12XT last week to get back into riding after not riding for 10 years.

Saturday I took it for a good long ride. On the way home I happened to look down and saw the Vtwin light on so, I started to pull over and shut the kill switch off. I heard the fan on and then the fan and light turned off at the same time. I restarted and kept goin. It happened again. I got home and checked the dip stick ( I had just changed the oil) and it was now down in the add zone. The P.O. had an ECMSPY cable in the package so I was thinking of checking it out but I saw a post saying not to use it on 2008 and newer bikes. Does this still hold true? What advice would you offer this new Buell owner? Thanks.

This thread explains how to read the check engine light without a computer:

Oil level -- there's lots of discussion on this site, but the Coles notes version is: Check the oil hot immediately after shutdown (the oil tends to drain into the motor, giving a false low). Don't run the oil level higher than 1/2 way up the add/full marks on the dipstick.
