Should have done this sooner than later but I don't normally label the 'obvious' parts when I take something apart. 4 months ago this must have been obvious...duh. Can anyone identify this? it's pliable rubber I'm thinking shaft seal INSIDE cover? I had my clutch cover off (shifter, clutch plate, clutch cable first). Also, the second pic is something I found in my oil drain pan after draining the 2007 XB12 but also after draining oil in my F250 so it may or may not be a broken piece that matters. I've gone through the parts diagrams and just can't identify.   | ||

The first one goes on the outside, between the shift arm and primary cover. I don't think the other one is from your Buell. | ||

Thank you ! I was relying on my factory parts manual pic which is still confusing but now that I see this I found it way in the back of my FSM where it shows the 'rubber bushing' (in the case) and then the 'rubber washer' between it and the shifter and even says put on the rubber washer and then the shifter in step 12. So it was obvious...hehehe.... That other piece befuddles me, it was stuck to the bottom of my oil drain bucket after I poured out the oil from my F250 but could have been there for a while. Maybe it came out of the inside of the Ford oil filter. Oh well, a job isn't a success without extra parts, right ? | ||

Looks like it may be a chain guide off my 69 Yamaha TM100.... | ||

Looks like someone accidentally put the rubber seal on the shaft inside the cover instead of outside.since it doesn't actually fit there, it would get smashed as pictured and probably split until it falls off. | ||

Second picture is totally different hard plastic part (which someone on a vintage Japaneses Bike forum says is a chain guide probably off my 69 TM100). I measured and you're right, Phelan, the back of the bronze bushing in the cover mates up to a ledge on the shifter shaft on the inside, nothing could possible sit there, especially not this thick rubber washer that I now know goes on the outside of the shifter shaft as Loose1 said. |
