so Im riding to work like I normally do on my 9R when i realize I left a pen in my front jean pocket ... I tilt on one side to adjust the pen that was poking me.... while doing this Im lifting my self up the seat with one foot on the left peg.... when all of a sudden i hear a shattering sound.. I was in utter disbelief when I realized what just happened.. the freakin peg broke not being able to withstand my weight... at 230 i guess im a big guy but come on...... Im sure they made the pegs easy to shatter to help break a fall but this is ridiculous. I just rode the rest of the way to work with the 1/4 of peg that was left. Im going to make sure to tell the parts manager to report it.. maybe they'll be nice and give me a new free one? ..........

considering how many times ive replaced pegs in my 28K miles of ownership that adds up.. at least the others i can blame on the bike being tipped over... either way 10 bucks buys me a 12 pack around the corner id much rather make that trip than one to the dealership..

You might try the Buell Traction pegs as they look a bit stouter. I'll have to keep an eye on my pegs as I out weigh you a bit...

I broke my peg loading my bike in the back of a truck after a wreck.I replaced it with the LSL pegs and flip brackets, also ordered the LSL sliders at the same time. They're billet, so they shouldn't break. I'll try and post pics later.

You're certainly not the first. A number of folks have had the pegs break, to the point where I'd even think this should be considered a recall item. Scares the bejesus outta me to think what would happen if you had committed most of your weight to the pegs, like when you stand up on them.

I've got the Buell Traction Pegs (billet with rubber), the LSL Billet pegs and the crossroads billet street-bike-meets-dirt-bike pegs in stock. I certainly would not be replacing them with the same stockers if I were you that's for sure.

Unfortunately for long legged XB-S owners, none yet exist for the 1" dropped position. The best you can do there is put the Sato rearsets on, and then adjust them tot he forward/down position (15mm forward, 15mm down, from stock firebolt). Pricey, but man do they work good. The bearing pivots for both the shifter and brake levers are wonderful, -ZERO- slop.

I broke a peg too. I think the issue is not how much they cost (they are under $15) is that you could have wrecked from the peg breaking.

There have been a few guys who have totalled out their R1's due to a stock peg breaking while they were doing stand up wheelies.

In todays bike market its all about lighter weight & one way they do that is by cutting parts down to the bare minimum..maybe sometimes a bit too far.

Yikes! The pegs are the last thing I thought I'd have to worry about breaking. What are the stock units made out of anyway?

This news does concern me since I have put my 225 lbs on the pegs while standing or lifting for some butt relief. Looks like I will have to invest in the traction pegs for peace of mind.

I don't mind spending on improvements but it doesn't seem right to have to spend to correct an apparent safety defect.

Does anyone know if you lose any leg length room with the traction foot pegs compared to the stock ones ?

In the pictures on the Buell site the traction pegs look to be even with the with the bracket while the stocks pegs look lower than the bracket.

To answer my own question, yes the traction pegs are higher than the stock pegs. I am going to be switching back to the stock pegs so if anyone is interested in traction pegs that were used once for about 150 miles let me know. I paid $60 and will sell for $40 plus shipping.
