Ok, I plan to use synthetic motor oil and gear lube in this bike. I want to know if I should switch to it after break in (500 miles) or wait till after the 100 mile service. Also, what gear oil for the trans should I use. I'm rather impartial to Mobile 1 myself but am tempted to use Amsoil.

I use Mobil-1 for both (20-50 for the crank case, 75-90 gear oil for the trans). I switched at 300 miles. I changed it again at 500 and then again at 1000. Since then... About every 2500-3K.

I noticed a certain improvement in gear changing from second to first and from first to neutral. It's gotten even better up to 9750 miles currently.

This WILL become a debate as people simply have different opinions.

I'd say DON'T change to synth until at least 2500 miles.

Change oil at ~150 miles, 500 miles and first service. After that, follow the service intervals or whatever you are comfortable with.

The reason for the oil changes is that there is a lot of debris in your oil during break in (it scared me!). Using synth at this point will lessen this effect, but also slow down a proper break in.

Also, don't baby the bike. Do what your manual says (keep the revs down and vary it) but let it accellerate quickly (open that throttle!). This allows for higher pressure and push the piston rings outside for a proper bedding.

My 2 cents! Enjoy the bike!

Don't worry about the babying. I haven't pegged the throttle yet but have done some good city and highway riding.
