So I have checked battery cables, no cuts, terminals good to go. spark plug wires fine.... and still on just about every start up the computer resets itself. not that I really care if the clock doesn't ever tell the right time, but some times it sets the check engine light and some times I get that clicking sound as if the battery is dead. But then I will try again to start it and she will start just fine. Any ideas? | ||

Check the battery cables again (both ends), and take apart the posts, clean and retorque even if they don't look dirty. Is there a master circuit breaker on these things? Or some monster main fuse that could be dirty/loose? My schematic is at home so I can't check. | ||

The battery is on its way out, I had the same problem with my XB9R. I replaced the battery all is well again. | ||

You need to run a load test on the battery. If the battery comes back fine then I would think you have a small short in the system that is keeping the the gauge cluster from pulling enough current to hold its memory. Or it could be an intermittent break in the circuit the gauges use for the memory. The Gauges themselves are equipped with the memory and not the ECU. | ||

what's wrong with this xb a batch of them just craps out a lot and you spend so much replacing crappy parts and to another crappy parts. I had the same problem before and I never resolve the problem I brought it to the dealer and they said they can't fix it too and they tried to make me pay for something they didn't fix | ||

first thing, and assuming your cables are clean and tight: look in the yellow pages under auto electric rebuilders. you will find a small DC electric shop that can load test your battery. normally we do not charge you any money for such a service. if the battery is not producing sufficient cold cranking amps, then your computer will not hold its memory while cranking. the local electric shop may be able to provide you a very high quality YTX-14 BS. let them fill, and initially charge the battery for you. expect to pay for the battery, and then be able to pick it up later in the day, or overnight. normally, if you ask they will load test your NEW battery, and it should test at nearly double its rated capacity. the factory AGM battery is rated at 200 CCA. the one in my xb12 is 15 months old and will load test at 350 CCA. good luck, have fun. | ||

So two things. My battery is probably crap. and ytx-14 bs is a battery. hmmm, what should I expect to pay for this new type of battery? | ||

suggested retail $72.95 if your battery guy is bike friendly, and its not right before closing time, and you havent wasted a bunch of his time previously asking dumb questions on the telephone while he WAS busy, you might pay around 65 bucks for a high quality YUASA, or INTERSTATE brand AGM battery in size YTX14. if you are a wise guy, or a PITA, or its 5 minutes before or after close up shop time, then expect to pay at least list price. | ||

Don't much feel like supporting the harlesy dealers around here because they are mostly rude. Soo, what you're saying is call about 12 times asking about the color of the batteries and the weights and all that and other stupid meaningless questions, then find out what time the store closes and show up 5 minutes before ask a couple more stupid questions until its about half past then debate on what form of payment I would like to pay with. Then settle on paying with quarters or dip into my dime collection... Last time I was at Pep Boys I noticed they had a descent selection of motorcycle batteries. They even had a YTX14-BS in stock, it comes in energizer packaging but when I opened the box it was a Yuasa battery I think it was in the $65 to $68 dollar range |
