So nice to read a rave review on the new Buell. If you haven't already read it, Mark Cernicky has a funny one: "Like me, this two-wheeled urban-assault vehicle (call sign: "City-X" prefers the wild outdoors to the close confines of conformity, where agents try to oppress our freedom (fought and paid for) to freak out a little". I think I need one of these with a race kit... |

Just read that myself, Don Canet even (finally) seems to "get it". The Buells are about being a fantastically fun street bike. Thats what they do. Even the discussion of "standing up while braking" is finally given a sane discussion, and described as pronounced, but not necessarily a good or a bad thing, just different. Lots of good things to say, but I was dissapointed to not see SteveA in there. |

It was a nice review. It'd be interesting to have the writers try out an XB with, say, Pirelli tires and see what they thought of the change in handling. Henrik |

It is always nice to see a good review of a great bike. Of course once it is put in the mix of other bikes, they seem to nitpick the crap out of it. Suddenly all the quirky fun attributes become faults, I prefer to call them character. As great as the Japanese repliracers are, they seem to have refined them to a point where even the experts can't find much difference between them. That just makes the Buell stand out further, but just because the Buell isn't following the same path as the others, doesn't make it the wrong path. remember BUELL=COOL |

I read the article too....and actually liked it. They seemed to have a neutral standpoint for once. 2 BURNING QUESTIONS ON STAT PAGE. Warranty listed at 12 months not 24 of previous generation. Compression ratio listed at 9.0:1 vs. 10.0:1 of previous generation. I'm comparing this out of the 2004 catalog. What gives? Misprint? Also listed peak horsepower and torque numbers at 71.8 and 54.4. ??? |

Compression Ratio is 10:1 HP = 92 Torque = 70 ft-lb warranty is 24 months. I e-mailed you a ,pdf of the complete spec sheet. Any questions or if you need to get hooked up to buy a bike quick, let me know. Court GRILL GUARDS - "for the people, by the people" |

Kowpow... don't worry about the HP/Torque figures. They put a new bike on a Dyno and measured rear wheel torque. Every other number you likely see for competing bikes is likely crank (which reads higher). My CityX was plenty fast stock, and with the Race ECM, cut out airbox, trimmed snorkel, and race air filter, and 1500 miles or so to break in, its even faster. I'd still like to fill the midrange hole, but the top end is more then enough for me. Go ride one, it'll be fast enough or not. But make sure you look down at the speedo, they go a lot faster then they "feel". |

A word of warning, cutting the 12 airbox made my XB9R a real dog at low revs. |

I'd think a magazine like that, with its numerous employees, would easily find a mistake like that and fix it. WHOOPS!!! |

Kow tempting line of logic, but you've got to keep in mind the amount of copy that's written every month by what is a very small staff -- much of the stuff found in those pages is put together by interns, non-biker folks, and others who aren't particularly intersted in the material they handle -- not an excuse mind you, but publications are alot like hot dogs -- you don't want to watch them being made |

HA! Excellent point Bomber. Don't want to watch them being made but somehow satisfying. |
