Need your help please keeping my 2009 XB12X running. I have a 2009 XB12X which is throwing a CEL every time I ride it for past few days. I tried to retrieve trouble codes using the jumper wire on data link connector per the instructions below, but I am afraid this may not work on 2008 or newer Buell XB12s. Question: Does this jumper wire solution only work on 2003 to 2007 Buells with older ECMS? It did not work on my 2009 DDFI 3 ECM. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=32777&post=513945#POST513945 I tried using the jumper wire on terminal 1 and 2 to read trouble codes from my 2009 Ulysses XB12X via the CEL and the CEL did not flash any codes. It did not flash anything. I am curious does anyone know if the DDFI 3 Electronic Fuel Injection ECM for 2008 to 2010 provide codes via the jumper wire option, or does the jumper wire option only work on earlier model Buells 2003 to 2007 (DDFI 1 or 2 ECM I think)? Thanks for your insight. Marc Plainfield, IL |

Two photos of my attempt to get codes from 2009 XB12X: 1). Jumper wire installed in data connector turn key to on position...wait 8 seconds or so... 2). no flashing at all from CEL.

Thanks to posts from Froggy and Xtrmbkr I have successfully read the codes from my 2009 XB12X. I had the key to the on position, but failed to move the kill switch on the right handlebar from "kill" to "on" at which points codes came flowing out. Code = 36 Cooling Fan And sure enough after warming her up on a ride the fan is not functioning at all. $135 Cooling fan thanks to St Paul Harley Davidson for keeping Buell parts. https://sphdonline.com/collections/xbx-electrical-parts/products/y0050-02a8a-buell-oem-cooling-fan-all-xb-models-b2y ....and hours of joy getting to replace the cooling fan this winter. I replaced cooling fan on my 2006 Buell once and it was a complete PITA getting out seat pan, comfort kit, etc to replace fan. This Uly will be fine until winter as most of my rides are long trips with plenty of air flow to cool the rear cylinder. I also have the comfort kit shrouds which pushes air back to the rear cylinder. - Marc
