Hello all, new Bueller here. So I finally got around to buying an XB12... I wanted an all black xb12S but I ended up getting the SCG. Im really regretting getting the low version, I find it very cramped and Im only 5'7":upset:, this seat is the worst, my junk is all jammed up against the "tank":mad-new:. Now it already has drop pegs on it, but im not looking for band aid fixes and im just going to convert it to a regular S. From what ive read i know i need: -Front forks from a S -Rear shock with the BLUE spring -Regular S seat What I am unsure about is if the subframe is the same(since from pictures the regular S subframe seems to point higher in the air). And I remember reading somewhere that the swingarm is different(that doesnt make sense to me, that would cost way to much for a small company to do that) So I am going to take some measurements against my friends XB9(city?) and see what that teaches me. I will be getting rid of my BLACK :love_heart: SCG forks and rear shock if anyone is interested in a trade or wants to buy them. Dont mean to be a debbie downer on my first post, just want to get the ball rolling on the information i need and possible contacts for parts. Thanks in advance |

You will need 03-04 S or R forks (make sure they aren't SL forks, which are the same as SCG) unless you also change the bottom triple tree. 03-04 XB and all SCG use forks with 41mm sliders, which have uppers that measure 54mm at the top triple and 54mm at the bottom triple. All 05-up XB (except SCG) use triple trees that measure 56mm at the bottom triple tree (all still measure 54mm at thr top tree). If changing the bottom triple, any 05-10 XB 9/12 S/R will work. The ones that will not work are SS, XT, X, and 1125 bottom triples. |

Phelan is correct with what you need. Buell lowered the bike by having different forks, rear spring, the seat, and kickstand. Cheapest/easiest thing to get is the different seat, and work your way from there. The taller suspension won't give you more leg room but may help with comfort when stopped. |

If you can, post some pictures, it is possible the bike has been modified with something like a tail lift (might be based on your description), or something else that is negatively affecting your comfort. Still, I say throw a different seat on (borrow the Cityx seat from your friend) and see how it is. |

Good suggestions, yes the seat is the first thing im looking for. definately did not know about the forks and the shorter kickstand makes sense. |

I think a trade would work as long as the parts are a straight swap. Is the rear shock the same thru all the model years? Ill measure the forks diameter, I would like to keep my black triples if possible. Ill post pics of my bike as soon as I get a sunny day. |

If I was single I could, but that wont work for me since I just had a kid and I dont have a passport. We'll have to ship the parts. |

So the swap list would be R/L forks (if the same size triples, otherwise with lower triple) + Rear Shock + Kickstand + Seat. Correct? is there something I'm missing? |

Correct...I don't know about the triple trees if they are the same size as yours, my bike is an 03, that is for someone smarter on here to tell us lol |

I would still be interested in purchasing your low suspension or swapping my 03 XB9S suspension for your low. Shipping would be to 14845 if that helps |

I would also be willing to deliver these to a F/F swap depending on distance. I'm about 2.5 hrs from Buffalo Ny. |

Have a look at the lower triple ,the early years short frame xb have two fork stops on the triple. The later longer frames have one fork stop in the middle of the lower triple ,don't know what the later short frames have! And you have to measure the fork leg diameters. |

What is an F/F swap? Its just over a 3 hour drive for me to buffalo(border). I think my friends xb9 is a 2003 so thats easy to compare. Cecil, what year/version is your bike? |

Face to face swap.....its a 2003 XB9S with blue rear shock. I have a passport and could meet you someplace in Ontario Ca. if interested. I also have a Corbin seat if you would like to try that instead of the scg seat. |

I tried to upload pics of my bike but the images were too big, gotta remember how to modify that. OK, so you both have the same bike. Can guys post pics of your bikes so I can see the difference in seats/seat height.Or email me at UpOnOneRamon@gmail.com. I am including the scg seat in the swap, so i need a seat in return. do either of you have a select seat by chance? Cecil, are you giving me a choice of regular xb9s seat or corbin seat in the swap? or selling me the corbin seat? Jess, can you also meet me or would we have to ship parts? Jeez, you guys are making me feel like a hot girl on prom night. |

So I measured my forks, 54mm just above the top and bottom triples(where the diameter looks the same as where the triples clamp down). So how do you support this bike with no front end/rear suspension and kickstand??? |

Put it on a good rear stand with a bar through the rear axle (so can not fall over) Depends on what muffler it has ,but a scissor car jack(screwed to a piece of ply wood) under the muffler or engine case works perfect. For removing everything at the same time ,remove the muffler and place it on a small bike lift or or stack of wooden blocks or a strong milk crate high enough to remove the fork legs and rear shock. |

I've seen someone "hang" the bike from garage rafters and some support underneath. Stands make it easier. This is the Corbin seat.

I have even hung mine under 2 ladders with ratchet straps. Check ladder and strap load limits. |

If you are still using the the OEM muffler shoe, you can pull the muffler and the jack the bike up with 2 flat jacks under the frint and rear of the motor, one of them hitting both points on the muffler shoe, and then you can remove the front and rear suspension and triples with ease. I do this all thr time. Mees, only the SS, STT, X, and XT have the different steering stop setup you mentioned. All other XB models and 1125 models use the same two fork stops. |

Ross ,thanks for the steering stop info! I once had my hands on a STT and a 1125 fork set ,so i did know there is a difference but did not know exactly the years and which types have what setup. |

Mine has a magnaflow muffler on it currently, I'll pull that off and lift it on the engine. muffler shoe? as in that aluminum block, mine only has the rear one. maybe one atv jack in the middle, plus a rear wheel stand just to stabilize?. It will be sitting for a couple weeks like that till i get the time to work on it, Just had my first son a couple months ago so my hands are pretty full. I dont get into the shop much anymore. Im going to swap out that exhaust for a Drummer SS or Dean adams, just havent decided yet. Also need some rearsets, but i need to sell my supermoto to fund this new project. Thanks for the help guys, this is a really good forum! |

Yes, that is the one. If yoy have a flat jack, run it across the two points on that, and that will lift the rear and stabilize the bike. Then jack the front from just under the front muffler bushing, with either a flat jack or bottle jack, whatever. This way you lift it from the bottom with 3 points, and can remove all the suspension components at the same time. |

Too bad you don't have the stock exhaust. It has jack points in it, so you can just get some wood and a normal frame lift, and lift the whole bike up by the muffler. I've also had my bike off the ground by using ratchet straps and eye-bolts in my ceiling rafters. Worked perfectly. When I bought my 2003 XB9S it was originally a 9SL. It felt tiny, and I'm 5'8 so I'm used to being on my toes on most sportbikes. I hated the feeling, plus the suspension was very rough when the road wasn't very smooth. Even worse was how much harder it was for the bike to wheelie haha. Anyway. I just collected the normal forks, new sidestand, and a new rear shock and swapped everything. Worked perfectly. The bike was the right height, the normal length travel of the suspension was so much nicer, and the front wheel was way more eager to come off the ground. I kept my low seat and eventually tracked down a normal seat and the cityX seat, and would swap between all of them depending on my mood. In my opinion the low seat was the most comfortable, but it was stiff. The cityX seat put you way higher, so you felt like you were on a dirtbike, and lifted your center of gravity so it made the bike feel like it dropped into turns quicker, and also made the front wheel a little lighter. Definitely a bonus if you can just rearrange a trade for someone with all the needed parts instead of having to piece it together yourself. Aside from that though, nothing too complicated about it. If I remember right, dealing with the stupid sidestand spring is probably the most complicated part of the whole process. |

What about the belt Idler pully? does that need to be swapped? or is it the same part number across the board? I come from a stuntriding(in my early years of riding) and supermoto background. So I feel that same "something doesnt feel right" being so low and flat footing on a bike. Im just 5'7" and I am completely comfortable just one footing it anywhere I stop, because thats how its been for me since day 1 of riding. |

Hello All, Just came across this thread. My dilemma is a 29 inch inseam; considering an S and an Scg; about the same money, but the S has a lot less miles. So I want to explore doing the reverse - can I drop the S to about the seat height of the Scg. What does swapping out the seat get me; can the blue spring be swapped for a yellow spring, will the forks slide up enough in the trees. Thanks in advance for suggestions. I'm in Phila, PA if anyone is close. |
