I have a 04 XB12S that I bought new. Just about 38000 mi on it. I had the motor out for a bit of refreshing. Is still pretty much stock. In all the time that I have owned this bike doing all my own maintenance TPS has only been reset once. This was at a Buell ride in Altoona by Toona probable in about 06. We were all doing them just because he could. Well after this removal of my motor it seems to run fine until you open the throttle past about 1/8 turn then it acts like it is not getting fuel, just air. It will drive fine and go 90mph, just don't open it past 1/8 throttle. I'm thinking it time to reset throttle position sensor and maybe check some other readouts on the ECM. Unchartered water for me. I now have the cable to hook computer to my bike. I think my next step is is to get some version of ECMSPY. Zero experience with this,. I read about different versions, where to download from, free or pay and so on. So what I really have is a bike, a computer and a cable. Point me in the best, proper direction. | ||

Long shot here but I'd suggest pulling the airbox off and checking the rubber bell to be sure it is properly seated on the rim of the throttle body and the clamp doesn't interfere with anything. This may sound like a strange suggestion, but the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago when I had to rotate my engine. Got everything back in place, it started fine, took it out of the driveway and go to give it some throttle and nothing. Using slight throttle was okay but couldn't give it any more. All I did was pull the airbox off and the rubber bell then reinstall everything again and it was fine. Maybe it has nothing to do with your problem, but it's simple and quick enough to try. |
