Yo, everyone. I recently bought a Yamaha fz6 (about 3 months ago) and since then, for some reason, I've really taken a liking toward Buells. I love my fz6, don't get me wrong. Lots of power, very comfortable and looks great. But, there's something about the xb12 that draws me to it. I know twins are loads different than the i4 on my bike but the only V-twin I've had was my first bike which was an old shadow If you had the choice between these two, what would you do? Would you trade for a the Buell? There's a decent chance I could just straight trade for the model I'd want (ss or stt). |

Kind of a loaded question for this forum, but having owned one inline four motorcycle, I never want another. To much hassle to work on, good power but kine of unsatisfying delivery, bike is too wide. Even the parallel twin KZ-400 I rebuilt that is in the garage right not reminds me why I don't really like them that much. Good bikes, I just don't like them. So I'd definately go with an XB. Don't rule out the 9's, a little less bottom end power but they run forever. And I'd personally avoid the 07's if possible. |

How do you feel about the power delivery of the 9's? Do they feel under powered compared to the 12's? I don't want to look into them and feel disappointed by the power in comparison. They look like they make roughly the same amount of torque |

The 9s need to be revved more than the 12s. The XB12s feel a bit under powered compared to the tube framed 1200s but the XB is a more refined platform, they should be more reliable and the suspension is better. |

The 9 doesn't have that off idle grunt that the 12 has, that's the biggest difference I felt, the 1000 to 3000 RPM range. The 12 is nice in how it just kine of leaps forward at that RPM on a relaxed ride. But if you keep the 9 wound out higher, which is a place it likes to be, it makes pretty much the same power right until it runs out of RPM's, at which point the top end of the 12 is just a little higher. I was on a 9 running with 12's at mid ohio and we would pull from the keyhole to the back straight over and over. From 15 to 100mph, in a drag race, the 12 would gap the 9 at about a walking pace speed differential. The 9 is a shorter stroke, so it gets a little worse fuel economy, and it can rev higher. And as nice as the grunt of the 12 is at low RPM, the howl of an aircooled pushrod twin XB9 at redline through an open airbox is a special thing. And I bet my XB9 was faster than my 1200 cc stock M2. |

My last bike was an '05 Yamaha FZ6 I always wanted a Buell since I felt the riding style would be different. I was always on the top end of the motor on my FZ and found myself overshooting throttle control. I'm really happy to say I was right. With all the low end torque of my '10 XB12Ss so it really has useable power and I haven't found myself doing 120 after passing on the highway, which used to happen to me all the time on the FZ6. |

If you had the choice between these two, what would you do? Would you trade for a the Buell? You're damn right I would. A friend of mine once owned an FZ6 and I rode it a couple of times. It's competent, but it's also one of the more boring bikes I ever tried. (Whereas Buells are the complete opposite of boring). I've been riding since 2005 and in that time I've ridden quite a lot of different stuff. Both bikes that I owned and bikes that belonged to friends. Once I first got on a Buell in 2012, that was all over. I bought my first Buell shortly after. Held on my to my Monster 1100s for a year or two, but in the end I had to sell that as well. It just sat there while I spent all my time on the Buells. I now own 4 of them. As long as they keep selling gas, I'll keep riding Buell. |
