Are you chasing a vibration? Or is the bike really down? I think I have one left that I pulled chasing down vibrations. High milage, but the vibration didn't change when I replaced it with new, and not visibly torn up. I'm not really looking to sell it, but if somebody has a flat out torn isolator and is looking at their bike being down until January, I'll be happy to loan them my spare until their new one comes in. Just pay shipping and promise to return it. Hopefully Harley will have the contractor build a billion of the things and we will be drowning in them for the next decade. Or we find the supplier and make our own deal. Or somebody with some real engineering skills and experience tools up to refurbish old ones. Don't throw away your old ones folks... we may need those cores someday for rebuilds. | ||

Barry controls made the old tuber ones. Any idea who makes the XB ones? | ||

Unfortunately the isolator our Buells need is not an "off the shelf" item. I've scoured their web site trying to find a substitute for the actual part with no success. I'm sure someone else could make the part, even if only the isolator, sans cast part. But that would require having the engineering drawings with all the specs. And a wallet fat enough for a run of parts. | ||

I know they were purchased by Huchinson because they are across the street from where I work. (the sign changed) I had no idea that they were still making Buell stuff though. | ||

If Barry controles do make also the single isolators without the cast alloy mount then it could be possible to press a new isolator in a early mount (the hole where the old isolator sits looks oval ,but is round after removing the edges) | ||

You would still need the right durometer and material for the isolator part. I here rumors from reliable sources that its not a simple part with a wide tolerance. I just replaced a similar part on my Mini Cooper S that attaches the rear of the front subframe to the body. You can buy the whole assembly, or just the inserts. Me, being as cheap as I am stupid, bought just the inserts. Pressing the old inserts out with my vise (monster bench top 8 inch jaw) exploded my vise. Sigh. OK, it was a chinese crap monster vise, and it just exploded a cast part that I could weld back up and that is holding, but I was there in the middle of a 6 hour job I had turned into a 12 hour job "saving money" thinking "geesh am I an idiot". Followed by "well, maybe I just need a hydraulic press!"  But the same deal, an inner metal ring bonded to an outer elastic part bonded to another outer heavy steel ring that is then pressed into a big cast part with some light machining. | ||

I think the real ones have the rubber cured in so that they are bonded. I don't think we could get away with pressing anything into our aluminum housings. Perhaps the poured in urethane soup is viable though. I saw that thread of the guy adapting the softail/tuber isolator but he never said if it worked or not. | ||

That is, the rubber part is bonded to an outer and inner metal shell. Similar to modern car suspension bushings. If that is the case then replacement should be possible. The early ones had the rubber bonded directly onto the alloy mount ,the later 06 have the rubber into a metal bushing that is pressed into the alloy mount. The early mounts have only a edge on both sides of the lug ,if that is removed it's the same as the updated ones. | ||

I've been asked in other postings about the XB front mounts. They changed suppliers and the new one needs 20 weeks to get the parts ready to ship. We have 60 front mounts on order at this time.
