As the title states, I'm looking to put XR1200 heads on my 09 XB12 motor. The heads will bolt on no problem. I'm looking for help trying to figure out how to plumb in the oil passages in the heads into the XB oil system. Any ideas? There are 4 fitting points total, 2 on the intake side and 2 out by the exhaust. I think running serial connections through the oil cooler would add too much pressure drop. The XR1200 has a pump line coming off the pump into the heads in parallel and out the exhaust sides. I haven't looked to see if the XR has a collector for the lines coming from the exhaust side. |

Curious why ? |

Mostly, because no one has ever done it as far as I know. But also curious if the extra dissipation surface area will help cool head temps, particularly the rear head temp, in this performance application. |

Phelan: are these the famous oil cooled heads with passages around valve seats? What size threads are in the head for inlet and outlet? Tubing or hose feeds the beast on the xr1200? What are the output parameters on your 09 oil pump? Pressure and volume? I have read some jagg literature and they take their oil in different direction than stock buells. Cooler first, oil filter first, can't remember as have to look that info up. Might have been a donny peterson article in American iron magazine. Keep posting on what you find, as this sounds interesting. |

I honestly don't know any of those things. But I know that other than the housing shape, the 09 XB and XR have the same pump setup. So as long as the line is set up correctly, it shouldn't be any issue, regardless of how effective. I don't have the heads in my possession yet. Honestly I'm still debating at this point, as it's a lot of dough that I could use on other parts of the bike. The heads are about $630 from New Castle, and the last 2 XBs I bought were under $1000 and had perfectly useable heads on them already. But it would be super cool regardless, and I already have a ridiculous amount of money and rare/unique parts on the build, so the heads would further that aspect. |

Will those heads even fit between the XB frame slabs? |

They are the same castings as the 08-up XB heads, just extra machining for the oil passages. |
