Got the DRUMMER installed on the bike. Love it, wouldn't change a thing. One thing that does concern me however is the valve train is a LOT louder than it ever was! I can hear it a mile away. It sounds like a helicopter going down the road. Sound lightens at about 3k rpm, but below that, God , it sounds awful. Maybe it's me. I could hear it slapping around with the stock can, but not this bad! Anyone experience the same thing? Should I have it looked at by the dealer!? |

I have the same problem. I once believed it was about to explode. Never related it to swapping the pipe, but now you mention it it WAS around that same time. 4000 kms later I simply ignore it. Sometimes another biker pulls up at the traffic light, looking in shock at my bike like WTF?!? I just give him a thumbs up! I'd say don't worry 'bout it man. |

yes we are running sportster engines.....with pushrods, rocker shafts, etc. but what has valvetrain noise have to do with exhaust noise? nothing, unless you have an exhaust LEAK. |

I do know the difference between valve train noise and an exhaust leak. This is without a doubt the valve train. Just wondering if anyone has had the same experience. |

sorry i am not understanding how an exhaust canister can influence the mechanical noises coming from your engine. it acts to dampen exhaust pulse noise. how can this amplify the sounds coming from your valvetrain? does it make your headlamps brighter, or the horn louder? no disrespect intended, i just dont understand the co-relation......... dean |

Full go put your stock pipe and if your box is drill put a stock one back on then report to me.Sorry but a free flowing exhaust can amplify more then just the sound of the pipe. |

No change in valve train noise on my 12 when I fitted the drummer or drilled a few airbox holes. I can hear it ping sometimes but there isn't much valve train noise at all, I thought if anything the louder pipe would mask the sound. I did own a Sportster for 7 years... |

No valve train noise here either. I have the airbox modded and a high flow muffler. |

Thinking back to the whole deal my valve train became noisier after I had put the drummer on. Right now its ticking like hell and heard several that are. Yet others make no engine noise at all. |

BadS1, no, I can still hear what was there before I was just saying that I couldn't hear additional noise. Well, maybe just a little deaf- 21 years of firing weapons, jumping out of aircraft, and flying helicopters for 15 years sort of eats away at your hearing a little faster than usual! Actually, I'm going SO fast now that the valve train noise is trailing me by about a bike length! LOL |
