There's a 2005 XB9 listed here locally, with 20k miles for what I think may be a good price. The ad states XB9 lightning and nothing else. Am I correct in that the only XB9 lightning in 05 was an XB9SX? Any particular problems to look for on this bike. I'm gonna look at it on Friday. Bike is listed as excellent condition. I realize that there are thousands of things to consider, but what would you think a ball park value would be if the bike is in normal condition? I had an 09 XB12SS for a couple of years. I had no problems at all out of it. I went to the Suzuki side for a while, but now I'm looking to get back to a Buell. Thanks for your guidance. depends on if its been well cared for or ran hard and left out in a field since new. it should have a different set of tires, or at least it will need a set that's not 11 years old. pump the suspension to check for shock and fork seal leaks. the 77 connector. ask any questions you can think of |

$3,000-4,000 depending on condition. (bought 03 XB9R for $2,500 with 15k miles) |

In my short stint with these, front/rear wheel bearings (should not be orange seals), headset bearings (they come loose, can check using front brake), drive belt (no cracks), primary chain adjustment (way to loose/bucks at low speed), and the usual tires/brakes/battery/fluid changes. |

Shine flashlight around the jugs to check for any leaks, check the rear one real good. Put the bike in third gear and WOT, if you feel any subtle skips, run from it. Wheel bearings/fork seals/brakes are wear items, easy fixes but can help you get a better deal. My belt had cracks all through it for the past 10k miles, I'd imagine they all have them with time. Has the primary cover been fixed yet? as in the lips under the derby cover that the clutch ramp pushes off of been broken off and remedied one way or another? If not, you can expect that to happen at some point. Like above, check the connector from the VR, see if it's been replaced. If not, you can add that to the future fix list. |
