04 XB12 Scg, runs great until... I take it on a 45+ minute ride mostly highway; I get into a small town and get stuck in traffic; after about 5 minutes it starts to putter then shut down. Fan is on the entire time. Right side of bike is extremely HOT, can't keep your hand on the frame. Takes an hour or so for it to cool off before it starts up again. Please help! |

Running exceptionally lean, or oil flow problems. |

Do you have capability to datalog and see what is actually happening? Any pinging or rough running? Rough idle? If you don't get caught in traffic, how does bike run and for how long? Checked your cooler, oil filter, and oil tank for somewhat compatible oil temperature, oil lines for cold or hot spots like circulation is compromised? |

I had a "Race Only" EMC that I remapped using the map I got from Al at American Sportsbike. I rode that for a year & had these & other issues (lots of sputtering at idle and takeoff). So I bought a brand new ECM from Buell per my bikes setup & everything is running SO much better, best as it's ever been actually. EXCEPT it still has that overheat issue. I hit the intake w/ propane to check the seals & those were fine. Given the advice so far I think I will be looking into the oil system. Any thoughts on how to clean that system out?? Thanks guys! |

I still wouldn't rule out lean fuel maps. See if someone here more familiar with what your 04 should have can look over those maps. Also check your static timing just to make sure it's where it's supposed to be. You never said if you have a way to datalog but then you have a handle on every parameter that is going on while you are on the road. Your afv should give a glimpse into what your mapping is overall. That is a variable to some degree of your bikes setup as compared to varying weather conditions, altitude, etc. As far as oil system goes, I would think shooting temps with a laser thermometer would show major differences in system where an oddity might be. Tie a manual gauge where sending unit is and check for specs against manual specs. Yeah, the homework sucks when all you really want to do is ride! Keep posting progress if you would. |

Thank you. I have the software to access the ECM however I am terrified to mess with it. I live in NJ so no altitude issues. I will let you know what I find out when I dig in this weekend. |

The ECM I purchased directly from EBR. I told them how the bike was setup & they said this was the one to match, another "Race Only" engraved unit. The software I have is ECM Spy. (Message edited by dtech on April 20, 2016) |

Not so sure that spy will work with that ecm. Not the free version . Mainly , tunerpro would be for that one. Check with ebr on that before taking chances. Just saying. |

If you can't datalog, you should consider a dyno pull at an independent tuning shop. Maybe $50 but it'll tell you where you stand generally. Not enough info to actually TUNE but it'll tell you if you're getting dangerous. Running lean can damage defenseless parts |
