That's what everyone I ask says about buells. I haven't found one person that has said a good thing about buells. I hear things like they have no power (the xb12 will be dusted by any 600 liter). Parts are cheap only because the bike is cheaply made, and they don't last long. As I said this is what I have been told, I am interested to hear what you guys have to say. I really like the xb12r but want to make sure they are good for the money. Thanks | ||

ride one, and make up your own mind as a data point, I believe the XB series has the highest cust sat rating for new bikes you can ride a spec sheet, you can ride your buddies opinions, or you can ride your own ride -- entirely up to you | ||

This is a long standing arguement. If you want to ride peer pressure, thats up to you, if you want to make up your mind wihtout riding the bike that is up to you. If you want someone to decide what you want to ride, that is up to you. What I can tell you is this. I SOLD off my 2003 ZX6-RR due to not riding it. I rode my XB12. I prefer the brakes on the XB, I prefer the everyday rideability of the XB and the fact its still alot of fun on the track. I have 12000 miles in 6 months of riding time. There is someone else here that has an XB9 that he has over 33000 miles of daily commuting on. What you need to decide is what YOU want to ride. | ||

Damn... We have SOOO beaten this horse to death. Do you ride in a straight line? If so, get something else. Do you like corners? If so, the Buell is for you. Do you want to use the bike for track days? If so, it's in the same class as the 600's. They'll pass on the straights (by a little), you'll pass in the corners (by a little more ). Do you ride a spec sheet? If so, buy a different bike. Do you prefer a bike with no character at all (no vibration at idle, can't hear it at idle, looks/sounds like all the others etc...)? If so, find something else. Do you tour? If so, I've found the Buell very comfy for a sport bike. Several 400 mile days. JD power & assoc rated the XB series as one of the most (if not the most) reliable and trouble free bikes you can buy. Personally I feel (and some disagree ), that the XB12's are the BEST sport oriented street bikes money can buy. They are capable on the track, but when placed on back roads in America, they are in their element. Another thing to consider might be the roads around you. If you have nothing but flat straight roads, you may want to go somewhere else (and I mean that as - either buy an IL4 OR move somewhere that has good roads for riding ). I recommend the second choice. Are you at all mechanically inclined? The Buell engine is very simple and easy to work on. The others aren't. Buells got a bad rep because of the older tube frame models. I'm not saying those are bad bikes (I'll probably buy an older Buell as my next bike) but they did have more problems than the XB's do. Speaking of problems - So far there doesn't seem to be ANYTHING that is recurring other than the belts on the '03 models. Even in that case, there is an updated and theoretically stronger belt for the '03's. There was a recall on the wheel bearings for the 03's as well. All is good now. As far as being cheaply made... Right... The controls are the same as used on Ducati's, The frame is made in Italy by Verlicci, the swingarm is Brembo, the brakes are Nissin, the wheels are Enkei, the suspension is good Showa. The attention to detail in design has been called "Japanese in nature" by reputable editors. Anyone else wanna throw in more? | ||

 I have only been here (and a Buell owner) for a little over a month, and I am so sick of this already. See everything that M1 said. Take a test ride. My XB has 18000 on it! It runs great, always starts, doesnt smoke or knock and is more than happy to tear up any curves with the best of them. The Buell is truly one of personal preference. Like any other vehicle on the world, some "lemons" escape the assembly line. It's going to happen. Ted: I second you on that bro. Before our demo ride in Sept., my friend & I stopped at a local Italian bike shop to check on his Guzzi. Not only did I endure the barbs for parking a Buell out front, we both caught shite for even WANTING to demo XB's. I believe the word they used to describe Buells was "toad." Of course, none of them had ever sat their snob-asses on one, but the opinion prevailed. We all have crosses to bear. Personally, I like buying American and having stuff few others have. If you do too, buy the Buell and ride with pride. | ||

Gotta do more than a demo ride on one to FULLY enjoy it. Unless you get to unleash the beast then. If it's a 9R keep it above 5K rpms and you'll know why. THis is my 3rd Buell... Had the rest, sticking with what I like best. | ||

Bikes are a personal thing with me and I love my X1. Not because it is the HomeTown brand, but because it does what I want it to do very well. Have owned many different brands and types of bikes and I feel the X1 is very good choice in its category. I would suggest that you determine what you want from a bike and take advantage of the test rides and see if a Buell is right for you. If you like it, buy it and dare to be different. If you don't like it, no sense trying to sell you on it. Just do yourself a favor and be honest about what you want in a bike. Just buying something because it is recommended by your friends or the inverse is not a good start unless your interests, etc., are and will continue to be identical to theirs. | ||

Skelo, they obviously have NO IDEA what they are talking about. Go test ride one, make sure they set the suspension up for you. Try to test ride one at a track day if at all possible. | ||

If you want to ride peer pressure The Peer Pressure was too much for me, high maintenance, and getting parts is a real hassle. Just try getting one of those serviced! It did scream though, but alas, it had no heart. Only had about 5000 miles the summer I got rid of it. My Buell has comin' on 27thousand miles in a little more than a year, it not only has heart, it's got soul! | ||

The XB's are so reliable, people have to invent issues to post on the BadWeb and start arguments. When the other manufacturer's finally catch up and start making bikes like the XB's specifically designed for assaulting the twisties, then you can talk about pros and cons. Right now the XB's are still in a category (re-invented by Buell) by themselves. Choose your Buell dealer wisely, but it's worth it even if you have to drive 100 mi. to get to a good Buell dealer. Depends on what you ride now and what kind of riding you do. If you crave triple digit HP, want to go faster than 130mph, and want literbike perform performance you will be very disappointed with the Buell. Buell`s are great looking bikes with style and an awesome sound, but your not going to beat 600 rice rockets in HP, top speed, 1/4 mile, weight, and price. | ||
