Has anyone here ever run the 27 tooth STEEL front pulley from Baker on an XB? I have a 2003 XB that I am upgrading to the newer 14mm (2004+) system. I bought a used cast 27T front sprocket and a 65T aluminum rear, but I think I want a lightened front to help with throttle response and wear on the bearings. I know I can get Free Spirits to lighten the stock cast pulley for about $70 US plus shipping. Aluminum front is out as everyone tells me the wear unnaturally fast. Has anyone ever used the Baker Steel pulley? Can you share your thoughts/results? Thanks - Sean | ||

I suggest you direct the question of compatibility to Baker. http://bakerdrivetrain.com/xl-steel-pulley I don't see a tooth profile mentioned, but I'd have to assume that it will not work with the newer 14mm pitch belt. Since the application is up to '03 Buell. Again, I'd contact Baker. | ||

To know the stock front pulley is steel as well, right? Just get FS to lighten a stock 04-up front pulley. (Message edited by phelan on March 20, 2016) | ||

I think Lucky Hands in Germany is the best one i had my uly pulley done by them and the work was excelent and was coated so it wouldent rust. | ||

If they bike is an xb12, a xb9 primary would lower the gears you would ride same speed but +300 revs above and gaign around 10% more of torque. (Message edited by Pontlee77 on March 24, 2016) | ||

The bike is already a 9, as it's an 03. All '03s were XB9. | ||

I sent it to Free Spirits a couple weeks ago, waiting to hear back. $75 to ship one front pulley...brutal. Thanks all for your suggestions. If I knew a guy with a high-end CNC machine shop, and convinced him to make a 27tooth 14mm pitch front pulley for the XBs out of high strength steel, what do you think the take-rate would be? Just curious..... | ||

So, a little frustrated....Shipped my pulley off to Free Spirits about 3 weeks ago - still nothing....hasn't shown up. USPS says 10 days from JFK to destination in Italy, but no tracking info is provided one in Italy. This sucks. On the upside, just found a Baker 26T XL steel sprocket, brand new in a box on craigslist in Appleton, WI for $100. I bought it to compare. Curious if anyone ever ran the 26T on an XB9R and what their thoughts were? Doesn't seem like many folks have tinkered with this? I have the Free Spirits tensioner, so I guess we'll see. | ||

I know, but not by much i would think. take the final gearing from 2.407 to 2.05. About 3 mph at 60, correct? I know cars typically have a 3-5% error rate. I hope it's worth the fun. I want to run it back-to-back with the stock 27 when it finally comes back from Italy. Sent it to Free Spirits for a weight-loss program. currently, lost in transit. |
