First of all, hello everyone! My name is Sofia, I am new to this forum and I'm although a new Buell owner! (since September) 2003 Buell Lightning xb9sl So to make it short, I was wondering how I could get rid off the rear fender and the "cheese grater" that goes with it and replace it by one that's less bulky and more tidy Is there a part I need to order? How difficult is it to unmount it etc..? Thank you!!! |

If you do a couple of searches for cheese grater and eliminator, there should be a lot of good stuff to read. |

The "cheese grater" and associated paraphernalia is there mostly to provide a "legal" length fender to accommodate the arcane laws regarding fenders in some states (should they be enforced). Elimination of the mostly decorative device is purely in the "eye of the beholder". That being said, modified pieces are commercially available (or at least they were) or you can "self-mutilate" to achieve the desired effect. Be sure to find the appropriate color paint should you decide to DIY, so it will look finished when you're done. I'm jealous, as riding in New Mexico and Arizona is high on my "bucket list!" The cheese grater and paraphernalia do have 1 saving grace It provides relief from water and road grime being flung up from the rear tire on to your back side ... If you happen to have an affinity for riding thru puddles or in rainstorms I guess if you leave it unmolested, It might be a collectors item someday ...? |

Mine doesn't do a good job. I have thought of covering the holes with clear packing tape on the bottom side of the perforated section, but haven't tried it. |

thank you for the answers! I did do some researches and I finally decided to go ahead and cut it myself with the help of a friend. I'm quite satisfied with the result, a paint touch up will be needed eventually but ill leave that up for later!
