Having an issue with my 05 xb12r, it idles ruff and runs like you know what under 35mph. On the highway it's perfect. I also get a backfire every ounce in awhile. I have changed spark plugs, cleaned air filter and sprayed cleaner threw intake as well as cleaner through the fuel injectors. It's my first Buell I have had it less then a month. I love it but, I'm a little upset I'm starting my Buell life off like this.

The first two things I would do is check spark plug wires then the in take seals.

How many miles on the bike?

Wires looked fine when I changed the spark plugs. What's the best way to check intake seals and are they hard to replace??
Miles seem low to me it's at 15,000.

On the plug wires look carefully for cracks and little gray spots. The gray spots are the areas the the spark is jumping across. Or if you're brave / daring and thinking they are good run your hands over the wires while it's running.

We have a couple of ways to check the intake seals, first you should take off your air box cover and air cleaner assay. With the engine running carefully spray carb cleaner or brake clean only over the intake seals. The other way is to use propane hooked to a hose and and put that next to the seals while it's running. If you hear the rpm change at all the seals are leaking.

Depending on the mileage, I had my injectors cleaned, new intake seals, and cleaned the intake around the injectors (on the inside) and that has seamed to fix my rough running issue. I also replaced the spark plugs because they got fouled out from fuel issue. I chased the problem for over a year and when I finally cleaned everything it ran correctly. Can't say what the exact part I cleaned fixed my issue, but I would have to guess the intake (part that holds injectors).

Hope this helps.

I would replace your spark plug cables while you're there, it's only $20.00

bout once a month, I hook up spy to uellymae and test fan, look thru numbers etc. main numbers are the tps settings and whether they are as last time.. I look at inlet air temp, and head cylinder temp. I shoot fuel cell to see what the ambient temp of bike is at the time with a cheap laser thermometer and then look at spy for inlet air temp and head cylinder temp. they should be close to each other. inlet air and head temp are always 4 to 5 degress c different but the pattern is the same on my bike. this shares whether a sensor is out of whack. Ulyman had a inlet air sensor that was over 50 degrees c out and it give him the fits for a short while until discovered. replaced it and all was well or back to normal anyway. I include this in my maintenance for bike.
