Well - they all said it would happen...
Wheel bearing self destruction before 5,000 miles.
Bottom end knocking and filling magnet with chunks.
Output shaft bearing becoming toast.
Drive belt leaving me stranded.
Header studs pulling out on a whim.
Fuel pump dying a premature death.
Steering head bearings becoming flat spotted.
Speedo and tach both stop working.
Wiring harness fries itself.

I've owned a 2003 XB9R, a 2006 XB12R, and my current daily ride is a 2006 XB9SX. The XB9SX I bought with 4,000 miles on it and it is still wearing its original belt at 35,000 miles. I've always run Mobil 1 15-50wt oil in both trans and engines. I try to keep an eye on wheel bearing roughness at each tire change. It may or may not help, but I take a few right hand corners pretty low to possibly move a little extra oil into the output shaft bearing side of the engine just for fun.

Actually NONE of the above has happened in my about 80,000 total miles of XB ownership.
He's my list of catastrophic failures thus far -
1 clutch cable
1 set of belt tensioner bearings.
2 batteries.

I keep thinking that I would like to sell the XB9SX to get a mid-seventies airhead BMW, but then I'd have a lazy, clunky transmissioned, two cylinder slow(er) bike that didn't handle like the Buell does. I just don't think BMW nostalgia will make up the difference - I like the twisties too much. If you are contemplating a Buell - find the most original one you can find and do it. At least thus far I haven't been disappointed in the least with any of the XB's I've owned. I'll get back to you at 65,000.

yeah, they keep telling me how often then have to be worked on. blah blah blah. for some reason i mostly just ride mine... and have been since i think 04 or so...

the only real problems ive had have been a few self inflicted ones, and maybe a recall or 2

a hand full belts because of nitrous, things like that... like i said, self inflicted
