I'm realibly informed by the guy who produces the 240 conversion kit for the XB's that the handling is'nt affected as much as you'd think. This can be bourne out by the size of the chicken strips visible in the photographs. I was due to test ride this bike myself, before adding the product to my website. But unfortuantely I got knocked of my XB9s by a female car driver on a cell-phone on Aug 30th, and I sustained a dislocated right arm (now re-located) and a shattered collar bone, which may require future surgery. I fully plan on fitting the 240 conversion to my next XB which hopefully I'll be fit & able to ride in the spring of 05. The good thing is with the conversion, apart from having to have a set of pulleys modified, it is a direct repalcement for the OE set-up. The only things that have to be removed are the hugger & belt guards for clearence purposes. *There could be a matching 2-piece front rim manufactured (to take the rim-rotor) if there was enough demand for it. Regards - Stewart b4b. |

The guy who makes the conversion says it doesn't affect handling that much If I was trying to sell those, I guess I would say that too. The added unsprung weight of the larger tire(and wider rim) will absolutely affect handling a negative way. The wider profile of the 240 rear WILL result in slower turn in. The steering geometry will also be negatively affected. Due the the short 52" wheelbase on XB's (which was engineered for quick steering), the affect will greater than on other types of motorcycles. |

Just because you can, does that mean you should? We see a lot of the ghetto styling being applied to the generic inline fours. I guess there's no sense leaving the Buells out. I'd be more curious about the "chicken strips" left on his front as a sign about lean angles - not the rear. |

I think he is referring to getting close to the edge of the rear tire. Actually, with a 240 rear you get to the edge of the tire with LESS lean angle. Look at the picture where you can see the sidestand. Just sitting on the sidestand, the tire is resting near the edge. http://www.bitz4buells.co.uk/products/240%20conversion.htm This is because wide rear tires have very shallow profiles (like a beach ball). If the profile was as steep as a 180 it would raise the rear of the bike a couple inches and cause clearance issues with the swingarm, hugger, & undertray. |

I rode a custom with a 200 tire. Not my kind of feel. I kinda felt like it got higher as I leaned. It may not have affected his handling at all. I see lots of bikes that have only the very middle of the tire worn. |

Tpoppa Yep - flatter profile - think flat like a caterpillar tread and with zero lean angle, you'd scuff the edges. The front will tell. |

That wide tire would look neat on my '49 WL Flathead, but not on my Firebolt. |

I just received the information for this conversion the price is as follows £1,500GBP (approx $2,670USD. Also an additional surcharge of £300GBP (approx $535.00) is applicable because they need your pulleys to modify. Due for production sometime in NOV 04 this is directly from Stewart @ bitz4buells Give these guys a huge for a quick response. |
