Maybe I missed it, but I can't believe no one has brought this up! The '05 Daytona 200 is going to be run in the AMA FXtreme class, and that means Buells!

(not that one will win, but hey, it could!)

Also, they are eliminating "NASCAR turns 1 & 2", whatever that means. I was at the race long ago, and remember a HUGE mountain of a wall they went up onto, does this mean no more highbank oval section? If that is true than the Buells may have a chance.

There is still the high banked turns at NASCAR 3 and 4.

The '05 Daytona 200 is going to be run in the AMA FXtreme class

I'm to lazy to look it up too this morning, so can someone please give me a layman's explanation of what this means with regard to what bikes are allowed and which aren't?

Formula Extreme allows:

600cc fours, engine lightly modified, certain Chassis modifications allowed.

750 watercooled VTwins, engine allowed more modifications, chassis pretty unrestricted

Up to 1350cc air cooled twins, engine and chassis modifications completely unrestricted

All on Superbike Slick tires.

Basically think of it as a more wide open World Supersport class.

A World Supersport spec bike can compete in AMA FX, but not the other way around.

I think the tire rule is going to change in 05 so any racing tire is allowed, so teams can use DOT/treaded tires if they want to.

So this year the only "Full Factory" involvement in this class has been Honda.

Ducati and Buell have "Dealer operated, factory backed" teams

Everybody else is on "privateer with some factory help" Suzuki's and Yamaha's, and the odd Kawasaki.

A Moto Guzzi MGS01 made a brief appearance. I don't think any BMW BoxerCup bikes have tried it yet.

Have the MGS01's shipped from the factory? I'd love to see one.

Daytona is a pretty fast track even with the new changes. I`m not sure if the Xb`s have the top end to do really well there?

I hope i`m wrong.

Are you saying this will be the premier race, in other words The Daytona 200?

YES.

The Track and the AMA don't want tires exploding anymore at that track. I'm sure Dunlop agrees. They have been lucky nobody got killed last year and the year before with the superbikes/Superstock bike tire failures that happened. Thus the reconfigured track layout and the change to lower powered bikes for the 200. The Superbike/Superstock races will be sprint races.

It's up to the teams to field competitive FX spec bikes for the 200 next year. Kawasaki is the only one so far that has said they would not do it. Yamaha has not said what they are doing. Pretty sure Suzuki will jump in along with Honda, Buell and Ducati.

I don't think the fans will mind what bikes are racing as long as they see Mladin, Yates, Bostrom, Duhamel, Ciccoto, Chandler etc are out there riding them. We'll find out in five months.

I don't think top speed will be the issue for the XB's; fuel capacity/range will be a bigger problem for them. They will probably need to stop at least one more time than everybody else.

I am going to love seeing Mladin running the smaller FX bikes and Duhamel which loves his 600's in the past and his FX bike now.I wonder how well Matt would do on a FX bike??
