Sure, if all you want is a track bike. The difference isn't horrendous if you are looking at the bike's other features. Earlier this year I followed a 9 (not a city but close enough)on a weekend ride. For three hours I watched his bag shift around on the tail no matter how he tried to strap it down. Meanwhile all my stuff was secure in the Uly's hard bags. Just a thought. |

I had both. The 9sx will take any line you can think of and split a dime in the process effortlessly. It's like you are wired to the road. The Uly handles more like a dual sport, but still pretty tight. Some given in suspension around corners, you don't need to get off the bike and lean into corners, less absolute performance and the line is a little more of a compromise between what you want and where it tracks (but not really in a bad way). I did a few 400 mile days on the 9sx and was pretty miserable by the end. I did a 900 mile day on the Uly and was ready to ride again the next day. I liked both. The luggage and the size (I'm fat and 6'2") would make me go with the Uly, but I do miss the 9sx. |

What are your needs? If you're riding any length of time, ULY. If it is just handling then CityX. You can tune the Uly suspension to give you a decent handling machine. |

Never rode a City-x but I can imagine with its shorter wheel base and suspension travel. That it can corner more precisely than the longer more supple Ulysses. We are back to the apples and oranges metaphor. |

I wouldn't say apples and oranges, more like Macintosh vs granny smith. Neither bike handles poorly, just two different flavors of the same thing. |

Pretty much as far apart as you can get in the buell XB line. Except maybe a 9sl or 9r. I'd get a Ulysses X (not XT) if you're 6'0+ & 9sx if under 5'10. The people in between like me can do both fairly easy. Agree, ^^^^ 9sx is a 1/2 day bike & X is a full week/iron butt bike far as Buells go. |

"I'd get a Ulysses X (not XT) if you're 6'0+ & 9sx if under 5'10. The people in between like me can do both fairly easy" I'm 6'0" and trying to decide between getting an X and an XT, thought the extra legroom of the XT would make it more manageable/less top heavy. Do you think an X would be better, why SX instead of XT for under 5'10"? |
