Anybody know if ECM Spy will work with Windows 8.1? I'm thinking of getting a Winbook WP700 to mount in my X Grip RAM mount to use ECM Spy and for data logging, but I want to make sure the program is compatible. My old Samsung laptop is far too bulky to use for data logging. |

I've got spy for mono on a hp notebook with 8.1 on it and having really good luck with it. have older version of spy on toshiba 17" laptop. I have not mixed the two as keeping up with what file goes to what program is not what i wanted to do. True, mono version is a least 72.50 donation at minimum but if that is the tool of choice then so be it. Cost of doing business at this point for me. I plan to try tunerpro in the future, but im too deep in with spy now and it is working for me. Im doing what i need to do with my skill level at this time. only thing is , i wish my wife would learn all this, so i would have someone to straighten me out when i think or do stupid stuff with it. actually, shes tired of me in driveway with notebook tied to Uellymae. You fool with that thing more than you fool with me! |

It works perfect in Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10. I've used it on all of them, I use a cheap Asus 10" Win 8.1 tablet for ECMspy/Tunerpro and PCMRead for my truck. |

At the risk of stealing this thread, whats the difference between ecmspy and tuner pro. Just starting out is there a direction I should take, one vs the other? Cable is in the post and I'm going to buy a 2nd hand laptop for the purpose tomorrow as mine is a mac. |

Ciel_bleu, there are three main tuning and diagnostic programs for Buells. ECMspy Free ECMspy Donation TunerPro The free ECMspy is discontinued and is no longer in development, it is for the 99-2007 models, other than a few exceptions it does not work on 2008 bikes. Given that it was discontinued, it is not the one you see on ECMspy's website, and any links to download it are from 3rd parties. There is a newer version of ECMspy which is not free, you have to make a donation to a specific hospital, but the newer version of ECMspy is compatible with all 99-2010 fuel injected Buells. TunerPro is a car tuning program that has been adapted to work on Buells, everything from 99-2010. ECMspy is easier to use, and significantly simpler to setup, but TunerPro lets you do significantly more and change more settings. I use ECMspy for quick things like AFV and TPS resets, then use TunerPro when I need to start doing more advanced things like changing speedometer correction for a new sprocket or tire size. |

Thanks for the nice clear summary Froggy, I'm thinking I need to go to New York just to buy you a beer (and maybe shoot the shit about Buells!) for all the good gen your giving me. |

Excellent overview Froggy, much appreciated. Do you know of the 2nd version of ECM Spy runs on Win7? |

It does. It is the old one that may have issues as it is no longer being updated. You may have to run it as administrator, depending on your system settings. Right click its icon, and then left click "run as administrator" |

I run the old version on my windows 8.1 tablet. Could never get the paid version to work (on any OS) and never could get a response to emails asking for help... |

throwing a bit of info out there, the donation that is paid covers one "series of ecm". my 07 is bueib and that is the database that they sell me to activate my download of ecmspy. if you want to cover more series of ecms for different years that would be another donation per series. all are listed on the ecmspy site. I just own the one bike so its simple at one donation. But unless the fellow i'm helping has the same series of ecm, i can't help him. have to use free version up thru 07 there. also of note, there are subtle differences in the voltage or degree readings off of sensors between the two programs. i can't explain it but i noticed when i first started using spy for mono that things did not read the same from free version. very small differences but it told me that use one or the other, not go between the two. that is why I bought the notebook. I think i'm going to start a thread in knowledge vault that we can discuss some of the parameters of the ecm and those that are new to this can get a better understanding of what is what and the different programs can be reviewed. hopefully we can keep with the facts and no one dumbs down anyone for their statements or opinions as has happened before. |

I had similar issue as Airbozo-- made my donation, but messed up by using my home computer to send the e-mail, so could not get it onto my laptop, and never got any help worthwhile-- it really was a donation! |

I tried for months to get a hold of someone, but got ignored (used different email accounts too). I don't mind making the donation to a worthwhile organization, but I actually expected the program to work, or at least get some response from someone as to why not. I followed (and re-followed multiple times) the instructions to no avail using the files provided. Oh well, the free version works for me and my S3T. |

That’s a shame you didn’t get a response, if it was on my watch either the email didn’t get to me or my response went in your spam. ECMSpy for Mono will work with anything up to Windows 10. |
