So I've been doing some work on my maps for my 12s. I've been focusing mainly on overall ridability and keeping the engine cool. Well over the past week we've been sitting at 97+ outside and so far my fan has yet to come on while riding both in traffic and out flogging it. Beforehand it would come on and stay on with ambient temps under 90. Afv last I checked was at 105. Thoughts?

I'm wondering if your engine temperature sensor is still accurate. It could be drifting and reading low enough that the fan doesn't think it is hot enough to come on while riding.

I would think the same thing if it didn't directly coincide with a new tune. I have no reason to think it is running excessively warm. No detonation, runs great, pipes aren't blue...

At any point in tuning your maps, did you load in any one else's eeprom as a starting point? That might explain it.

Since you have tuning ability, a simple data recording will give you the answer. While riding around, did your ETS ever show that the engine temperature was hot enough to turn on the fan, for the Key On condition?

I would suggest just letting it idle for a long time in your driveway to see if/when the fan turns on.
Certainly standing still doing nothing will heat it to the point of clicking the fan on.

I did not load any eeproms, still using mine, just been working on maps alone. And that is a good point readyxb. And thanks for the thought Nate, if I get overly paranoid I may do that.

Check the fan temperature parameters in the map? ANY chance they MIGHT have been re-set?

I know that's somewhere in the eeprom slaughter but I'm not as up on the hex-decimal system in there. If anybody has any info on that it would be greatly appreciated

The fan operation on my '06 Ulysses has always been fickle.

Some rides the fan comes on after a few miles, from a cold soak startup.
While on some rides the fan takes longer to come on... all the way, to not running until shutting off the bike!
Ambient temperatures do not seem to make a difference either, though, you'd think they temps would...

So, I gave up trying to predict when or if it will run during a particular ride.

I've considered replacing the head temp sensor but a $85.
I'll wait until it throws a code or causes running problems.

With good oil and a decent tune, my 1050cc rarely comes on either, even when the temperature is close to 97. Now if I go with thinner oil, the fans runs a lot!

Mobile1 Vtwin because I can't argue with my personal results.
