I might have to sell my 9R. My insurance just renewed for this year and it went from $680 a year to $2900 a year! I have gotten no tickets or accidents. How can you justify that? My bike is a 2003 White/Blue 9R with 3,100 miles on it. It has never even been scratched (in case anyone might be interested). I am not very happy. My wife and I are about to buy a house and I just cannot pay that much for insurance. |

Jeremy, Don't sell yet! Get on the phone and get some quotes from other companies first man. The same thing just happened to me - I got my renewal in the mail about a week ago and had a jump from $520/year to $2600/year. I'm 38, married, no accidents, no tickets, AND an MSF instructor... I called the agent and they were lame... a couple of phone calls later and I've got a quote from Dairyland for $450/year and a quote from GEICO for $540/year for the same coverages. Good luck, no worries! Johnny B |

It seems like a lot of the insurance companies are blackballing certain bikes. Obviously they deny doing this too. |

Thanks guys, I will give them a call today. I asked my insurance company today how they can justify this jump in price and they said that "insurance companies have been re-evaluating certain bikes and finding them to be high performance, like your bike". Unbelievable! |

StateFarm goes by engine size only, but you have to have a car insured with them because they won't take a bike by itself. I'm not insured by them at the moment ( used to be but changed for non-insurance reasons), but they are on my short list if/when my bike rates go up. |

stay way far away from state farm for motorcycle insurance. if you get hurt on your cycle state farm will not cover your medical expenses. |

Really? I'll have to remember to check into that if I need to change insurers again. After my incident I've learned a bit more about how to handle an accident and which insurers are basturds to deal with. |

Interesting. I'm with Progressive now. When I got rearended I was with StateFarm and they set up a medical account for me to use if I needed it, which made it seem like I had medical coverage. Maybe it was because I was the victim in the accident and the collision happened out of state. Regardless, there's seems to be a lot of variation in what different people have available in different regions for similar conditions and coverage. |

Mike, State Farm is known to do things like that. Its one of their "going above and beyond" that is commonplace with them. My personal experience with State Farm both as a not at fault(non-policy holder) and at fault claiment(policy holder) was very good. I just can't justify what they want to charge me myself and I for bike coverage. I will not go into my thoughts on Geico, it would be like reading Dyna's thoughts on his X1. With Progressive, whom I currently have at $34 a month my initial quote last year was raised 2 months into the policy. I talked to the rep for Progressive and showed him the error of his judgement and got my original quote reinstated. My insurance stayed the same this year as it was lastyear upon renewal even though I had to do it by starting a new policy due to my move to a different state then the original policy was started in. |

Insurance is a total scam. I'm 23, no tickets in the past three years, one not-at-fault accident, and I'm paying $1070/year through US Insurance Services. Just for kicks I called and got a quote from Progressive. Progressive wanted $3600/year with a $500 deductable or $2600/year with a $1000 deductable- and that's after my multi-vehicle discount. At that rate I could buy a new XB12 every three years. I tried calling Harley's "easy rater" but they only had one company that would even consider me- the one I'm already with. On a more positive note, progressive did offer me liability only for $130/year. If it was up to me I wouldn't have coverage at all. |

Motorcycle insurance has been getting crazy lately, especially on sportbikes! |

I asked State Farm to remove the medical insurance coverage from my bike policies because they just doubled up on my health insurance I already have through work. Wouldnt have provided me with any extra benefits. So they definately do offer it, just maybe not in every state. |

Americanrice, Just wanted to let you know that you don't have to worry about "cheap" service with that cheap rate either. I was very impressed with the speed and professionalism not to mention personal treatment I received processing my claim after my accident. I stuck with Dairyland because of it, even though I believed my rates would rise... THEY WENT DOWN! Dairyland bases their rates not on the rider but the statewide cost of their business. I love em' Everyone should come on over! |
