i have an 03 xb9s and would like to know what all is involved in using xb12 cylinders and Pistons. I'm aware the stroke is longer in the 12 but are the crank or connecting rods compatible with the 9 bottom end? Any info will be greatly appreciated.

The cylinders are exactly the same, same heads and valves too. Stroke is really the only difference. Changing to the 12 crank but using the 9 pistons produces a higher compression 12. Changing to the 12 pistons and crank produces a 12.

That said, think about a big bore bolt on kit, not that much more money. I would still go 1050cc short crank kit over a 12 long crank change. But if the crank had to come out, a balance and maybe new big end bearing would certainly be done.

Yep the difference between the 9 and 12 is basically just the stroke, so it is pistons, rod, and crankshaft, virtually everything else with the motor including the cases are the same.

Greg is correct in what he said, going with the 12 crank and rods but keeping 9 pistons will give you more compression than a stock 12.

I also agree with doing a big bore kit if your budget permits. Don't forget that no matter what you do, you will need to do something related the fuel mapping.
