I believe I have the makings of a track bike. The Sato sliders did add some protection. I think that the only way to go is solid mounted foot pegs that (rearsets) and the welded on race sliders mounts. That is what I plan on doing. (Message edited by fbolt on September 25, 2004) |

Sorry to hear of your spill. Looks like the frame held up well (no dents). That's encouraging. Heal fast. |

What was the outcome of the sliders, it's hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like one of the mount points failed.? Craig |

Did it damage or crack the tab on the frame that the slider is mounted to??Could have some hair line cracks in it???White spray paint can make them appear if not noticed with the naked eye. |

Makes me glad that I went with the LSL frame sliders that are more securely mounted to the top engine mount. Just hope I don't find out how well they work. Sorry to hear about the downing. I think I'll buy some swingarm sliders now! |

Alright-here's what seemed to happen with the sliders. I lowsided and from the angle of the slider, it hit the ground straight on and then bent outward (pointing toward the front of the bike). The slider hardware has collars that are used to reinforce the bolts. The bolts bent but the collars did not. The slider did provide some protection but it could have been better. My plan: Screw bolt ons (no pun intended) and get the race welded sliders. That plus the swingarm sliders (could have saved me some bacon!) and solid footpegs should do the trick in a lowside. Highside? Your on your own.

Looks like the swing arm is bent. Unless the axle is unscrewed a little. Did ya measure it? |

I would have to agree also. Threads are on the left side so the right side could be bent in if hit hard enough. |

Those pictures illustrate why I stayed away from those sliders. If the forces had been in the other direction it would have ruined the frame. I do think the same sliders would work ok if the engine hanger was gusseted and larger bolts are used, but that would mean leaving the engine jacked up while the mount is removed for the work to be done. Glad you are alright and the bike is in pretty good shape xbolt12 |

This is a shot of my homemade titanium bar end and rear axle sliders after my low side. The other damage was a cracked mirror, front and rear brake lever ends scratched, a small dent on the header and my pride.

Glad you're OK - ditto on checking that swingarm, though! For those of you considering swingarm sliders - do it! I got mine from Keith (Dark Horse Moto) a few days ago. Took 2 minutes to install, they are excellent quality and look incredible powder coated black. My header just arrived, too...now if only the damned mirrors would get here! |

Darthane - Did you get them Jet-Hot coated? I sent mine out last week to Jet-Hot. I should have them back Friday or Monday. |

Yes, I did. Very pleasant people to work with. I got mine done in the black coating, which was a bit more expensive, but it looks REAL nice. Can't wait to get it on the bike. Another day shot - not like I've been doing a lot of riding lately anyways. I think I'm going to try the yank the shock and fan then worm it out approach rather than rotate the engine down. Either way, since I've never done it before, I expect it to take up most of a day. Live and learn! |

I went for the silver "Sterling" color. They estimated $117 total including shipping. I'm hoping its not too much of a pain to install. Kevin said he could fix the slightly dented stock header dent no problem. Then I'll have a spare for my next low side..... If your black looks good maybe I'll have it coated. |
