hey guys, when i fired up the bike this morning, i heard a rattling, and noticed the cam cover was loose. I tried to snug the fasteners back up with a small allen wrench, but they only spun, not actually snugging up. So when i tried to 'unscrew' them, same thing. Can these fasteners be tightened and loosened at all? I don't know why they are loose all of the sudden, either. Any comments are appreciated. |

Those are pop rivits. You have to replace them. You can replace them with screws if you want. |

Mine lost one of the rivets long ago. I just took it off so I wouldn't lose it on the road somewhere. I just keep forgetting to put it back on. |

i figured that was going to be the case. How do i remove those rivets w/o damaging the cover? and apparently it's ok to leave the cover off, right glitch? |

I usually use a drill bit to drill down to the bottom of the head of the rivit. Then use something to pop the remaining piece off, like a screwdriver. Just don't drill all the way through the cover too. And make sure to get the back side of the rivit before the fall into the bottom of the cover. |

The ideal tool for removing pop rivets with little concern for over-enthusiasm with an electric drill motor. Tried using one of these once and it seemed to work so much better with a sharp bit than a high-speed drill. YMMV

it's ok to leave the cover off, right glitch? I guess so, mines been sitting in the garage since the beginning of summer, and I ride in all kinds of weather. I'll remember to put it back on tomorrow, or the next day... |
