O.K. before I get flamed, I tried to find this with the search but still didn't get an answer. Were the wheels factory powder coated or painted? Before I rip into 2-3 sets I thought I'd ask first. I would also be interested in how others recoated their wheels, not the colors so much as the process. Thanks! (Message edited by gearhead on February 08, 2015) |

They are powdercoated, the last Buell to come with traditional paint was a 2002 model tuber, everything since then is powder. That includes the frames, swingarm, engine and so on. |

Thanks, figured all these parts were powder coated but with today's finishes, it's kind of hard to tell. |

My experience with XB wheels told me that they are powder coated from the wheel manufacturer then machined then painted the final color. I bought a new black 3 bearing rear wheel and used paint remover on the finish. The paint remover pulled the black paint off of the wheel but not the powdercoating that was underneath the paint. The powdercoat that remained covered the cast surfaces only and not the machined surface. |
