So I got me a new rear tire after my crazy blow out. The bike shop close to me only had one brand my size and I didn't feel like waiting so I got a continental contimotion. It seems legit so far. I took the tape off the air box I previously placed on it. The bike was noticeable weak and missing a little. Now it runs pretty dang good. It's a tad rough for a minute or two when cold but it comes to life when warmed up. Other then the low beam light issue I already posted about the bike is amazing and now I'm just fighting the weather

The availability of tires thing is what pushed me over the edge of getting a tire changing rig.

My tires are now delivered to my house via amazon!
One more pair of tires and it will have paid for itself in labor.

The conti motions are an ok tire. grip felt good even in the rain. Tread life wasn't really long, but to be expected since they are so cheap.

I had 3 punctures in 2 years with them though. I'm gonna say they were bad luck.

"It's a tad rough for a minute or two when cold "

Your supposed to warm up the bike until idle settles down to normal warm engine before taking off.. at least that's what I was told and practicing that I'm never having a stumble, fouled plug or reason not to rip right out the driveway.

Yea that's what I'm doing now. It just idles horrible and will die if I don't feather the throttle while it's warming up

Do '03 XB9's need TPS resets like my '06 12?
If so, perhaps that is something to consider before goign any further with your idle problem.
I know on later years an out of whack TPS will certainly cause poor (or no) idle quality.
