Hello again everyone!
So I picked up a K&N and installed- Didn't expect any drastic changes and didn't get any. Next up, I'm finally 'over' the stock exhaust, so after much research, have decided on a Jardine exhaust.
This leads me to my real question, which is what the best way to remap my ECU will be. "Best for me", which in my case means easiest to operate.
My question is, has anyone any experience with this, and will it work for what I want which is basically: Properly remap air/fuel for the inevitable Jardine decel pop and overall better engine efficiency Reset TPS, see/remove codes Overall more responsive bike with hopefully slightly more efficient fuel use (ie I get GREAT gas mileage; I just don't want to lose that for tons of extra power. I'm hoping a more efficient ECU setup would mean better use of fueling.)
Thoughts/Comments/Experiences all welcome.
Oh, and if Xopti isn't doing the BT cables again for awhile, I'll end up soldering up my own based off the EcmSpy instructions.

@04Colly & @D_Adams-
Thank you BOTH for the info. I was trying *not* to turn this into an exhaust thread, but I know for a proper tune they're intermingled, so here's where I'm coming from:
- I read up on all exhausts, ALL pages of the XB shootout (I have an XB9CityX btw) and all about the Jardine packing blowing out, but a.) The $360 price was nice, b.) I had a hard time finding an exhaust that I like) that didn't require me to send in a core, c.) some sources are hard to reach, and d.) others weren't "slip-on". I'm a pretty handy and well-equipped (tools) shade-tree mechanic on the car front, but motorcycles I'm far less knowledgeable, so I'm not quite ready to disassemble parts to rotate motors or replace major exhaust components (headers, etc.)
That dual exhaust setup is what I REALLY want (haven't bought the Jardine yet btw) so @D_Adams, how much is "just a little more"? (It also doesn't look like I'd need to replace the header which would be nice.)
At the end of the day may goals are: More efficient motor (ie MPG increase if possible, but no decrease & less 'work' for a longer motor life), increased performance (any gain will do), and an exhaust note that sounds better than stock. Period. ~
The programming question comes from the standpoint of me not wanting to blow my motor with a stock ECM and freer flowing intake/exhaust.

$635 shipped as pictured. Contact Mike Cobb for the tune, he had one just like this for a few months on his own bike just for developing the map for it.

@D_adams- Appreciate the info but that's a lot more than a "little" more; it's nearly twice the price. Completely worth it for most people and applications, but I still need a cable and software or paying for a tune, so I really can't justify 1/4 of the bike purchase unless I'm doing something more fun with it than "spirited commuting".
I'll take one last look at Jardine alternatives but for what I'm looking for, it's a great mid-term solution from what I'm seeing/hearing, lol.
Anyone have any thoughts on the proposed cable/software combo? Would that do everything I need unless/until I get into headers and major engine changes?

He has a cheaper setup that utilizes a MagnaFlow muffler. My buddy has a MagnaFlow setup on his. Sounds really good. It's not one of your setups though dean. I think it is the other guy who built a similar setup to your MagnaFlow.

Hmmm... I put a modified NASCAR muffler on my M2 (which is "Magnaflow/Flowmaster-ish; along with intake New Mikuni w/larger jets, dif. sprock., dyno tune etc.) and I loved it! After that the 1200 was scary fast (for me) but the note that came from it was "Harley-esque" but also really unique. And THAT is one of the reasons I love Buell---
I don't suppose there's an audio/video of this out there? What does something like this cost, and what's the install look like, visually and in terms of effort? I'm not *opposed* to chopping up the bike (been doing a bit of that already) but I would still like to keep enough original pieces on it that if I sell it to a purist it won't be impossible to recover...
Hey, thanks again guys for getting back to me and going through all of this! -DD

..And just to clarify, since there's a bit of a soft pitch for product here, lol, depending on benefits, my max on an exhaust system is about $400 due to shipping. If someone's localish to Long Beach, I'll go $450 with a meetup. Thanks again in advance! -DD
I've had a carbon Jardine on my XB12 for 50K+- miles at this point. Took it apart once to replace the original packing, and that's been it. It was way too loud for me though, so I got the quite tip installed very quickly. Mine certainly has not fallen apart. It might some day though. One down side to consider is that the Jardine style chin spoiler mount (used by many mufflers) don't support the front of the fairing like the stock muffler. As the engine shakes in the soft mounts, the spoiler flexes at the forward bolts in the side of the fairing and it will eventually crack and fail.
You do tend to get what you pay for though. Jardine is a cheap muffler. D_adams builds some really cool mufflers, that appear to be high quality. I like his innovations. One of the places that rework the stock can keeps the spoiler mounts all intact. That's a big plus if you want to run the spoiler.
Keep in mind that with the cheap Jardine, the tune will be up to you to get done. Doug is offering a more expensive muffler that is higher quality, and the ability to purchase a plug and play tune. Your best route is a personal choice. I'm just pointing out some pros and cons of various choices.
Hand built pipe. $635 shipped. Mine has ceramic coated hand built headers also (bumps the cost up a bit more), but it changes nothing for the way it sounds. It's only an 03 xb9, currently making 83-84 hp and 70 ft/lbs with nothing else done to it, just my exhaust & a tune from Mike.
I know I disappeared from this thread. Basically I'm still holding off on $600+ worth of exhaust. It's a lot for me in terms of how much the bike is *worth*, although at the same time, I don't want something that blows out wadding all the time. Anyway, still thinking on this one....
Love your work bro! I've fabbed up a couple exhausts myself, although not as nice as yours, but I'm currently running my second build and have a 3rd in the making, both full stainless
You have to tune no matter what muffler you put on, I don't care what anyone says.
My advice, purchase an EBR ECM and pack the Jardine with the American Sport Bike packing. You save a crap ton of weight, and you get lovely throttle response, nice deep tone, and no decel popping.
The quiet tip robs the Jardine of all its power. If you don't want it to rattle apart it must be packed with something good. Once good packing is in place, it sounds sublime.
