Just wondering how many mile is "normal" for an XB motor? Mine has developed a bad sounding noise. I think a wrist pin, piston skirt or something. I was on interstate commuting to work, rolled off throttle for exit ramp. Thumping noise sounded like I was rolling over expansion joints in road but there were no joints. About a half mile to my workplace. Seem to run fine but it doesn't sound good. It's an 04 XB12. About 38000 mi. Kept oil changed with Mobil 1 V Twin since after second oil change. Seems a little early for internal failure. Guess I will be seeing the inside of her over this winter and finding out what let go. |

Could be engine sprocket nut coming loose-- sounds like crank going. They changed torque spec as a running change---- now is 250ft/lbs (Message edited by firemanjim on October 01, 2014) |

Checked for loose crank nut. Found loose magnets in rotor. Changed rotor assy. Noise still same. Found these two posts on you tube. They sound just like my bike but no repair results. At lease I know I am not the only one to have this problem. Hope these you tube posts work. Never tried re-posting them. Any ideas would be appreciated so I know what repairs I am getting into Thanks https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lE-1zbiWIaI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p7_oCjawaDs |
