Well, I'm in the market for another Buell. I've been out of the saddle for 2 years and cannot take it anymore. I've had just about every Buell model in the past but this time I want my unicorn; 2003 battle blue xb9r. So what all is upgraded with the upgraded belt? Is it just the belt, or is it the belt and pulley? I don't know. Froggy, can you answer this question? Btw Frank, long time no speak haha. Thanks, Chris |

Belt, idler and both pulleys I think. Mine still has an original belt on it, somewhere north of 35k miles from what I was told. It's showing some signs of wear now. |

Dean, should I find one that hasn't had the upgrade, does anyone still have the kit available, like maybe Al? I kind of figured it would be more complex than just the belt. womp womp womp |

Belt, both sprockets, idler pulley, and optionally, the belt guards if you don't want to run naked. Battle Blue is best blue Al has a kit, but you can source used parts cheaper http://americansportbike.com/newdir/Item/A17082 |

Is it the same idler pulley off of a xb12? |

Same idler as off of the new belt style, so I think the xb12 might work. I have all the parts, but could not get the sprocket off the wheel so I ordered an 03 belt and just going to be happy until next time I need to change it. |

All 2004+ XB models, both 9 and 12 use the same sprockets and pulleys. |

FWIW, I have an 03 9R with original belt setup and I will not bother upgrading it unless forced to. I have no issues with it. There are better things to throw money at initially like frame pucks, bar ends and axle sliders... |

I picked up a XB9R last night. It already has the belt upgrade done. I'll post pictures when I get it up to my standards. |

The bike looks good, it has right side scoop too, great upgrade. Also a performance oil filter too. I am not sure of the year model, but it looks later than 2003, these were the ones that need the upgrade for the belt. I can see this is at least 2004 judging by the belt guards. To do this upgrade, idler, both pulleys and front cover, plus loose the belt covers. Also the tools to get the front sprocket off. Make sure your lights are bright enough when riding at night, the early ones were crap, polished alloy reflectors that would burn out and pit, thus giving poor light. There are a number of little mods you can do that are easy, look them up, such as white wire mod, add another earth from battery to under the coils. These will iron out a few little issues believe me. I was chasing a stutter/flat spot at 3000, I wish I had found out about the earth issue 4 years ago. Have fun riding it, these are awesome bikes.
