Did some searching through the Badweb, but didn't really find anything on this subject... I just replaced my rear Uly rotor and brake pads this weekend. Was a piece of cake. all went well, no skinned knuckles, stripped threads, or gouges in the paint. I used Lyndal Gold pads, and the rotor is one of those scalloped jobs that Al sells. After getting it all done and back together, I notice that the pads on rotor are quite tight... I can spin the wheel, but there is definitely some friction there... enough to feel and hear. My question is: Is this pretty normal? do they just need some miles to "wear" in? I've changed many set of brake pads over the years and never noticed friction quite like this, really... This is my first "new" rotor, so I was surmising that the increased friction was due to both rotor and pads being new... Insight? |

It could just be 'new' fit, but some other possibilities. If you removed the caliper from the swingarm, is it correctly seated? Brake piston fully seated in the caliper? Could try measuring the thickness of the new and old disc and see if there is a big difference. Finally, you might want to pull the two pins/bolts that the caliper 'floats' on and make sure there is no corrosion. I have seen situations where the crud built up to the point that the caliper couldn't move, and one pad would wear a lot, the other pad looked almost new. Hope this helps, Dave |
