Cant seem to find one of these for less than $20, Does anyone have an idea? I tried buellster but the part descriptions arent very clear and I dont want to end up with another rear one. | ||

I got some from napa. American Sport Bike will have them if you need to see it in a hd labeled plastic Baggie. Others have bought them from marine supply distributors. It's not that uncommon of a part, but it has many uses and vairied applications, so a couple of different names. Ideal makes them, others do too. There's a few threads about direct replacements for them. | ||

My only issue is that I do not have one to take somewhere and size a new one since apparently it's been missing for a long time and I just noticed while doing some maintenance. Wouldn't happen to have specs would you? | ||

I bought 2 rear clamps from this place: http://www.deepblueyachtsupply.com/series.aspx?id= 127 You just need to know the size. Most of the time, it's more cost effective to just call Al @ American Sport Bike. That way there is no guessing. Plus excellent customer service. | ||

ahhh Mcmaster is a pain when it comes to links. you want the largest T-bolt hose and tube clamp they have Part Number 5204K22 | ||

I bought the deep blue ones and used them successfully, so I can confirm Teeps first recommendation. However having both them and the factory parts in hand, the factory parts *were* more substantial. So I can also confirm Teeps second recommendation to just call Al. I'm not above re-using a front clamp if I keep a spare good clamp in the side bag when I go anywhere. I did have a reused origional clamp break on me. | ||

You might want to jamb the nut with another nut ... I lost several front clamps in a short period of time. My theory is the nylon which locks the nut gets hot and the nut backs off. Haven't lost a clamp since I jambed the nut. | ||

the front clamp is shorter than the rear 2 clamps. you can measure your muffler at the front with a piece of string to get a circumference on it. | ||

I got tired of the cheap straps and made my own. I used 1/8" by 3/4" steel for the front strap and bent into shape, then drilled two holes and installed a bolt. Cost, $6 aprox For the rear I used 1/8" by 1.5" steel and did the same thing. Neither have broken. Cost $0 as I had those parts laying around. So for about $20 you can ditch the cheap crap and build a permanent solution. | ||

How do you apply tension to your home made strap? Can we see some sexy pictures? | ||

Yup, give me a bit. The strap is short, by an inch or so. As you tighten the bolt the strap then gets tighter. | ||

Never had a nylon nut back off a front strap, though I have broken plenty of front straps on the race XB12R. Finally took a broke one and homemade it to use an exhaust spring to keep the 2 halves together. |
