long story short, big dent on the right side... does anybody know if frame covers have been made for the uly or ss (it is my understanding that they share the same frame) and where I might find them??? |

as you can see, I HAD a frame puck... it got shoved into the frame so hard it made this dent, but it didn't crack and the frame didn't tweak, just a huge fist sized dent that is so deep a new puck has nothing to stick to below the crease... I have 51,642 miles on this 06' uly and love the damn thing so much there is no way I am going to trade or sell it, just want ole bessy to be pretty again... |

That was one hell of a blow to do that WITH a puck on there! Frame covers do exist for the SS/Uly, Trojan in UK sold carbon fiber ones. I don't see them listed on their site anymore, they may be discontinued. |

If you have a welder you trust to not burn holes in the frame maybe a slide hammer? I gotta ask...what did you tip this off of? Either way sorry for the bad luck brother! |

Dwilson... short story made long... it was 26 degrees so frozen pavement and cold ass tires, started to make a left across a 6 lane hwy with a good crest in the center and gave it a bit too much throttle coming out of the off-camber corner and the ass end whipped around . I have no idea what dumb switch in my brain said to grab the clutch but I did, the rear tire immediately caught traction while sideways and high-sided me real good at about 15-20 MPH. bad night.... |

I'm not saying this will work , BUT , you could try a really strong epoxy adhesive with a bolt anchored at the deepest point of the dent , and really slowly wind the dent out with nut and large washer or even a small bearing to take the torsional stress out of the equation ,using a cross brace as support. Could be worth a shot , nothing lost if it does'nt work! |

Ilmberger no longer make the frame covers for the long wheelbase models unfortunately, which is whay we stopped offering them on our site. An insurance company would probably write the bike off with a dent like that in the frame, and you need to check carefully that the integrity of the fuel tank hasn't been affected. |

As Froggy said, that was a lucky night not a bad one brother! My brother highsided a dirt bike in gravel at 20ish, and was in the hospital for a month!! |

Do not pierce the frame! There is a coating in there that is probably still intact and fine. Structurally, the thing is still likely plenty strong enough as well. You just lost a little fuel capacity, not a huge deal. Fill it with epoxy putty or something, shape it reasonably well with sanding paper, paint it on the bike after masking with a can of frame spray paint (can you still buy that from Harley?), then put a fresh puck over it. Disclose the repair to any future buyers so they can make an educated decision about risk. |

Also look at the motor mount points for frame or motor damage. I had a partially sheared rear head where the frame mounted after my accident. It looks like that frame took a pretty good pop. And make sure the frame as a whole wasn't bent. |

thx guys, the frame is still true as well as the motor mounts, not sure how I lucked out on that one but I am glad that I did... I don't want to try to pull the dent or anything, I think the metal has been stressed enough. Not to toot my own horn, but I am pretty good with a wrench but I have never done any body work so I am pretty sure no matter how much I try it will never look right again which is why I am looking for something to cover it up... |

you could try a really strong epoxy adhesive with a bolt anchored at the deepest point of the dent Wrong way to remove a dent. You want to start at the edges and work inward. Basically take it out the way it went in. I would go with Reepicheep's idea of simply filling it. You may find you have some high areas near the edges that will need to be tapped down further to get it feathered well. |

You could use the old 2 stroke dirt bike header approach, and fill the frame with water and put it in the freezer! (Just kidding!) |

Ilmberger carbon covers are no longer available but I have just realisede that we can get these in glassfibre(with kevlar panels at vulnerable edges) to fit the XB12SS adn XB12X models. They are supplied in unpainted white gel coat finish but then you can paint them any colour you like They attach to the frame using either strong double sided tape (as used in double glazing) or preferably using silcone sealant.
