I recently bought an '03 XB9S with only 1,100 miles. It had no tool kit or owner's manual. I turned to eBay and bought a new factory service manual from an HD/Buell dealer for a very good price. The recommended settings by rider weight seemed consistent except for fork preload. Table shows 4 lines for 230 to 400 lb. load capacity. Interesting, as text says factory setting is 4. I'm sure it's just an error but wondered what the owner's manual says. I marked my table from 7 to 1. I've done some experimenting and I'm now running 4 on the fork and 3 on the shock. Seems close for a 170 lb. rider who rides moderately--hell I'm 70 and just glad to be still riding. I leave the knee pucks to you young and fast. |

For 170 lbs you should be running 4.5 or 5 lines of preload showing. 225 lbs and up should be 3.5 Hope this helps. Feel free to call me next week if you have questions. 1-866-757-1651 Dave daves@h-dappleton.com |

Shorty, I left my 12S settings as they came for a little bit to see what it rode like. I then set everything to the recommended settings in the shop manual for my weight. It felt a little better but today I rode a friends 12R and it felt like a totally different bike. He said he had things cranked up a little stiffer than what is recommended for his weight so I think I'm going to do that. It takes a little time to dial it in I think and it all depends on how you ride.........Odie |

Don't forget Odie your riding position is different between the S and R models. When I swapped to the R triple I had to reset the suspension again to fit what I liked. Mine is set one weight class higher then my actual weight. |

He had Heli bars on his so I wasn't quite bent over as much as stock. I think I'm gonna go up a setting myself and see..........Odie |

I have a 12R and weigh 180lb. I am running position 3 on the back with .5 turns rebound. On the front I have 3 lines showing and the forks pulled up an additional 3mm from stock. This gives me a similar ride height as 4 lines showing but not as much sag. There seems to be way too much sag up front with the recommended settings when compared to the rear. Notice how the bike raises up alot on accel and dives on decel up front. Getting rid of some of the excess sag helps control this. |

I found upping the rebound on the front and comp on the back was the only solution to the accel squat. Factory setting seem good for decel. |
