So I am at a loss. Last week saturday I was cruising around doing some light riding. After climbing a small long hill, I shut the throttle and the bike backfired a bit. Withing a minute the bike began sputtering and then altogether died within another minute. On the road side I googled my symptoms while waiting to be picked up which are: Bike shut off Bike will start and begin to idle for no more than 5 seconds. Bike dies. I threw a cam position sensor at it, found one cheap and seemed to fit. I also yieled bad test results from mine so I figured that had to be it. The bike still will not run. Fuel pump primes, I have spark(am running through checking resistance in wires and coil now) any other ideas guys? |

I putsed with that today, on tuner pro rt I'm reading 1.21 volts. the cutoff point is something 2.25 Went through spark, clean plugs, didn't end up checking the resistance on the coil cleaned plugs. Still no boom boom. I thought perhaps from the road side starting i fouled the plugs but they look like they are giving strong spark |

First, since yours is an 05 you can used ECMSpy to take a good look at what is going on and pull codes. Far easier than TunerPro. https://www.dropbox.com/s/oy2o25ftx90v7xh/ECM_Spy_ 1.12.27.exe Hopefully that will allow you to get some more info. Now, since it's not running. One thing it could be is your Cam/crank position sensor. Unfortunately Tunerpro nor ECMSpy will be able to show you that it's gone out as the sampling is to slow. A new one is about $120. The way to check it would be to use an oscilloscope to see the pulsing of the sensor. Course, the o-scope is about $100. So, I would just buy a sensor. The next thing it could be is your ignition coil. You can check the resistance across it to see if it's good. If I recall from the service manual it should be about .5-.7 ohms. So my father poured some gas down it's throat, and it ran for almost 10 seconds. Im leaning towards fuel...there are kinks in the fuel line as well. so im gonna try and come up with a rig to test fuel pressure now. |

chopped off the quick connect line fitting at the injectors.Checked [psi with fuel pressure gauge. Came up with 10 PSI. I'm certain thats no good given the manual calls out 50? Anything I should be looking for in the fuel pump? |

A new one looks to be on order. Although, you might try replacing the filter and screen in there. From a cross reference thread it looks like the fuel pump is. fuel pump for a 03 musntang V6, part number E2366 at autozone XB fuel pumps are made by Walbro and are model #521 Got the above info from here. http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/General-Moto rcycle-Chat/Parts-cross-reference-thread/2/ Filter is Fram g3606/ is now #3095 metal fram filter http://www.buellxb.com/Buell-XB-Forum/Buell-Lightn ing-XB12S-XB12Ss-CityX-XB12Scg/where-to-get-fuel-p ump-strainer-and-fuel-filter The sock in there is airtex filter is FS111 (might be an Advance Auto part #.) Found the info for that here. http://www.buelletinboard.com/forums/showthread.ph p?21083-If-it-s-not-one-thing-its-another!!!/page3 |

Do you know where to get the O-rings from the regulator to the pump? Mine were trashed and I also noticed this things been apart before...has a chrysler regulator Does it make sense the pump just giving up the ghost mid ride like that? |

Are you talking about the O-rings for the pump assembly? Not entirely sure other than American Sportbike for those. You might be able to take them and match them up to ones that will fit at an auto parts store. As for giving up the ghost on a ride, it could happen. What might happen is it was dying before then, but you just didn't notice it happening. Since it is starting the pump must be pressurizing the line enough for the initial pop off, but it can't maintain the pressure. A clogged filter could cause that. Restricted flow. I only suggest the filter and screen first though as you don't know if it was ever done. Also, since you have pressure, though low pressure. Also, you can get those pieces from the local auto parts stores. (Message edited by cataract2 on April 05, 2014) |

The o rings I'm referring to are the three that sit on the output from the pump and the input to the regulator. I think I found replacements in a universal fuel pump rebuild kit, so it will be alot better then what the guys before me had..I almost wonder if all the pump pressure was leaking back past the o rings...they had a piece of fuel line jammed in there to seal it with 1 o ring. I hear you there...I generally dont like tossing parts at stuff, just because you'll never know what exactly failed...but in this situation its a PITA to remove the fuel pump so I may end up ordered the pump, filter, necessary o rings, and still up in the air on the regulator..still all in all that would be like 75$ max so that's an easy pill to swallow when a new unit runs something like 300+. |

Fully understand the parts side. Be sure to read up in the links I posted about the pump. There might be some differences in the alternative ones from the one we had. |

Picked up an Airtex fuel pump for 110$ tossed it on the bike with a new fuel filter Noticable difference in priming noise and th ebike runs!!!!!!!!!! For anyone else who's getting into this project the airtex kit comes with a walbro pump...so it saved me something like 30 bucks! Thanks for all the help guys Dave W. |
