Is there an easy way to remove the headers with out rotating the engine out of the frame? I want to send it out to be ceramic coated with out moving the entire engine. | ||

It is possible, I went through it for the same reason. I hope this is either a XB9R or a XB12R. I removed all fairings, and take off the tail section of the bike. Once you have done that you will see your rear shock and the fan. Take off the top bolt of the rear shock. You will want to put something between the swing arm and the frame so it does not fold. I used a little block of wood. Take the fan off the bike. This can be a little tricky, you need to angle the fan in such a way so it comes out. Once the fan is out, you will have access to the top 2 bolts and the o 2 sensor. Take off the o 2 sensor and take off the 2 upper header bolts. Then remove the other 2 header bolts. Now remember, you need to drop the exhaust also. I would do this part of it first. Removing the exhaust: 1.Remove the chin fairing by removing the 4 torx screws that hold it in place. Don't loose the white plastic washers. 2.Loosen the rear axle pinch bolt on the underside of the swingarm. 3.Using the rear axle removal tool unscrew the rear axle 20 full turns. This loosens the drive belt tension. 4.Remove the front belt guard by removing the 3 torx screws that hold it in place. Don't loose the white plastic washers. 5.Unscrew the 2 nuts that retain the belt tensioner and pull the tensioner off of its studs. The studs are a close fit on the holes in the tensioner so be sure to pull off in a straight even manner. Don't try to pry it off. If it sticks then push it back on all the way and try again to pull it off straight. 6.Loosen the clamp on the muffler's inlet. 7.Loosen the clamp bolt that holds the header to the muffler. 8.Loosen and remove the three band clamps that hold the muffler to the frame. 9.Work the muffler off of the header by twisting slightly and you are done. Now when you are taking the headers off the bike, this is the tricky part, you will have to get them around a motor mount. I forced mine around it and here is a pic of the results of that. So if you removed the right cover, then it would possibly clear okay!? | ||

Pull the cam cover, and you will more then likely have to pull both rocker boxes to get it back on. |
